I just called Ellen and asked her about that 3 of Pentacles.

She said that any projects concerning money at this time would be in the planning stages with that card. And that ,while there is nothing working against Jeff at this time, that card indicates beginning work and labor, not any kind of culmination or results from effort being put forth.

Also, a couple other points:

When you read for someone, face South.
When you read for yourself, face East.

Concerning whether you should buy your own cards or wait until someone gives you some...well, some of us could wait forever for that to happen! I've got a feeling that most of us here are the first in our group of friends and family to broach and discuss openly all these spiritual subjects! WE'RE the odd men out, so to speak, compared to those around us.

And if someone DID give you a deck of cards (I myself gave Ellen a new deck just 3 weeks ago!). I would think that such an act of friendship would also carry with it much affection and goodwill...a great way to start using a new deck.

Irish140You're right, if someone gave me some cards, I'd be tickled :)

Cindy, your friend's offer to intepret the card for us, is very generous. My belief is that the card can only be interpreted by the reader and/or the querant (the person being read.) My interpretation was similar, yet very different in tone and outcome. I've also been taught (and believe) that the card can mean something different, every time it's read. Depending on the situation, the question, the querant, the position of the card if done in a spread, and the relation to other cards in the spread. Today the 3 of pentacles can mean one thing, and something completely different tomorrow.

(This should be a whole different thread, and we can do threads on each card if anyone is interested??? .....) My interpretation of the card was that it signified completion was near and material increase. The suit of pentacles (sometimes called "coins") represents material possessions, sometimes that means money.

Three is the number of creation and completion.

The skilled craftsman is "raised" as he talks and plans with the monk and nun about the completion of the work being done on the church, signifying teamwork and planning. This card is also a card of the Masons.

The card mirrors my husband's current situation . He's skilled in his craft, and much of his work is called "componant planning" where he has to plan and execute componants in technical areas, requiring technical skill and teamwork with many others. His current area is being phased out (because his work has come to completion) and so he's just recently interviewed for a position in a different area of his company, where he will build on those same skills. My husband is a member of the Masons :)

For Jeff, the card is a very positive one in relation to his question about his financial future.

Color me interested! :o Great idea, Pam. I think this is a really great topic to discuss here, and we can all learn more about each card this way. Irish140, I also was going to ask you, can you share with the rest of the class the purpose of facing South if reading someone else and East if reading for yourself? Is it a magnetic pull thing?

I have a set of cards that my daughter gave me years ago and forgot about. Guess it was not my time to investigate.

Maybe I will got get them and see what I can do.

My interest is peaked now - thanks for the nudge.

Since we are on the topic of Pentacles, what do you get from the King of Pentacles? He comes up in nearly every spread I do, it's almost a guarantee.

In trying to answer my own question, I came across a website that offers a FREE TAROT COURSE ONLINE...
http://learntarot.org/

They say that you only need to have a deck of Tarot cards, and they are using the standard Rider Waite deck.

I think you ought to start a new thread, titled "King of Pentacles" and tell us what you learned so we can discuss

This is what my book says about the three of pentacles:

Symbology: A nun and a monk watch a sculptor putting the finishing touches on a carving he is doing for the church. Three pentacles adorn the archway. See the sections on the Numerology and the Kabalah, and note that three is the number of completion.

Divinatory Meaning: Material increase. The master craftsman, the skilled artist. Gain in a commercial transaction. This is the card for members of the Masons and other groups and societies.

Reversed: Lack of skill. Ignorance. Selfishness. commonplace ideals; preoccupation with gain.

From "A complete guide to the Tarot" by Eden Gray

Pam, I agree with your interpretation of this card. Jeff's current position is about to change for the good, materially and otherwise.
