View Full Version : Memory after Death

I remember reading in the news and maybe on this site, an article about a doctor studying patients who have flat brainwave activity, who are revived, retaining memories from the time they were "brain dead." Does anyone know where I can find it?
I'd love to direct a skeptic to this study, she just told me it was impossible.
Also, what are people's favorite sites or articles about life after death? What things seem to be the most solid "proof?" It's hard for me, because watching John convinced me, I never went looking to science for this answer!

Hi Theo ~
Ah, you have found how to bring a lurker out of hiding!
NDE’s and (memory after death) are my obsession. I am fascinated by the topic, and have been reading about them for years.
Then, JE came along, and only fueled my fire.
I never tire of reading peoples accounts of NDE’s.
I believe I am a healthy skeptic. I want to believe with all of my heart, but am never fully convinced. Reading about NDE’s is what keeps my faith alive. I, too, needed the scientific evidence, so I read everything I could get my hands on….not just NDE accounts by every day people, but studies done by people who devoted their lives to the topic.
A good place for you to start is by going to the website of the IANDS (International Association of Near Death Studies) http://www.iands.org/
That site alone will boggle your mind.
The absolute best book/author I have read, IMO, is Kenneth Ring (he actually is a past president of IANDS). He wrote “Heading Toward Omega” (1984 by Wm. Morrow & Co.) http://www.near-death.com/experiences/experts04.html
In it he talks about the hard core facts of NDE’s, most importantly, the biological basis for them. He has gathered thousands of NDE accounts over the years. The book is an easy read, despite the fact that it was written by a Ph.D.
Another MUST READ and good starting point might be the books by Elisabth Kubler-Ross http://www.elisabethkublerross.com/
Here is a woman who devoted her entire life to the dying…..by supporting and VALIDATING their real life experience of dying, as well as experiences such as memory after death. My favorite book of hers was one of her last, called “The Wheel of Life….A Memoir of Living and Dying”.
Her experiences alone were amazing, and after reading the above book a few years ago, I was so moved, that I had to call her and speak with her. I told her how confused I felt at times, but that her work had inspired me, and she told me “just keep going….” And that is what I do……I just keep going, and searching.
Some days I’m not even sure what it is I’m looking for, LOL.
But, one by one, I have those “aha” moments, that I just file away, that take me step by step to the place where I can believe that we are eternal.
Hope these links help.

Theo, Have you tried looking in the debunking skeptics folder? I do remember a conversation about this study but I think it was at the now defunct Survival Science message board that Steve used to have. You could try to find the link to the study at that site too.
I will try to remember the name of the fellow who did the study (it's on the tip of my tongue!).
The only other place I could think of reading about this is in the book Conscious Universe, but I've sold my only copy and can't look it up for you. I only mention this just in case you also have this book and may have read it there.
Good Luck,
Tammy
Annemarie's links are great! I think what you're looking for is in the news folder Theo. Browse the titles there, or use the "search" feature to find exactly what you're looking for.

Thanks, Pam, I thought I had read it there, too, but I didn't locate it. BUT, the lovely and talented Phil'sgail sent me a link, which was not the original article, but one this is bythe same doctor and is quite the story!
Maybe if we ask pretty please, we can get her to post the link here! :o

Annemarie--
Wow, when you unlurk, you do it BIGTIME!!! Great links, thank you! Maybe if you want to believe, you need to do John's tapes so you can have your OWN experience!!
Then we can read your book.
