View Full Version : Looking for a tarot partner? Post here :)

If you're looking for a local, or internet partner to learn the tarot with, make a post here, and make sure your email is enabled in your profile. Remember, this is a round table discussion, and there are no "experts" here, we're all beginners. This is not an invitation for "teachers" to find "students".

If you're learning, or want to learn, and would appreciate having some one to read, be read by, and compare notes on card meanings, layouts, symbolism, technique and any thing else, post here.

I'll be the first: I would love to have a buddy to bounce my readings and interpretations on, and would be willing to do the same.

Me three :D .

I am not exactly sure how to get started. I read my book but it didn't make too much sense to me.

I need another deck though. I know that for sure.

Me four

Mine will probably have to be online for now, though...my schedule is insane for the next few months. How would we do that? Email? :hmm:

Irishrose, I'm with you! I have the RW deck and book as well as another book regarding that particular deck that someone recommended and I just can't understand any of them. After trying to read many of the chapters and falling asleep many times, I totally gave up.

I have decided that I am not ready for such a complex mechanism. I think JE needs to write a book teaching how to use regular playing cards like he learned with as a young boy. Then, he could print up a deck with pics of our favorite JE sayings and facial expressions on the back... you know like "SHUT UP!" or "GET OUT" or "BITE ME" or "Wow, I can't believe I got that!". Maybe I could work with something as simple as a four suite deck. LOL!

When the rest of you working on this learn more, I will ask for a buddy who is patient and kind to walk me through their first steps.

:laugh3: Me too, Mrs. Jones. I loved her comments...

To answer your question, yes probably by email. I think the fact that Pam has us make sure that our email is enabled so we can pass info back and forth that way. Have to see how it all hits the fan.

I do want to get another deck first before I start this and a book - maybe Tarot for Dummies - (seriously dumb dummies :D ) to help me at least get an idea of how to lay out a few runs. I always feel like there is at least ONE thing I don't know so that I can feel a little bit comfortable.

Mrs. Jones, you and I are definitely on the same wavelength! I SO could see these cards. Can't you just imagine what the interpretation would be if you got say the Queen of Hearts in the Raised Eyebrow suit?!?!?! LOL!

I have just become interested in learning to read Tarot cards and would love any help I could get. I have a deck of RW cards and I'm starting to understand the double meanings of each card. I have read one of Eden Grey's books, but it caused me some confusion. I guess the best way is to try reading the cards for someone else or at least talk with someone about the cards.

I am also interested in learning. I bought some cards but they don't have a specific name on them. They came with a little book but I misplaced it. Is that a hint ???

maybe Tarot for Dummies Hey! Don't laugh - I bought "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Tarot" (Othersidetemp did too, we talk about this elsewhere in this folder) and I really like the book. (so does othersidetemp)

The card meanings are based on the Eden Grey book that John suggests, (which is based on the original work by Waite, who designed the cards) but are more full explanations with modern day, real life examples of the meanings. I use other books too that are seemingly unrelated.

I give it a  as a serious starter book, but would never suggest it be the only book or source you use. You gotta start somewhere!

That is a very good idea. Thank you. Borders - here I come.....

(I hope this posts, I can't view anything new but I can click on existing things...weird)

P.S. Today on the radio (Thursday - 8-5) the d.j.'s were wishing the psychics a good week. It is Happy Psychic's Week :D . I think people on the highway thought I had lost it. I'm laughing like mad and I am the only one in the car.... :o rofl

I picked up the Tarot for Dummies. It comes with a book , set of cards and a fold out to show you where to put the cards. I started reading the book , so far only the first couple of chapters have been read.

Hi,

I am studying Tarot and attending classes. The book I have found really easy to read and understand is 'The Tarot Revealed' by Paul Fenton Smith.

The first book I bought was "Everything Tarot." It's from a series just like the "... For Dummies" books and I think it's a really clear and easy introduction to the tarot. Another thumbs-up.

Anyone willing to let me have a go at a reading????

I want to thanks everyone for their suggestions for books on Tarot Cards. I'm on the way to the bookstore and will look at all the books that were suggested and select one. I have really got into all things metaphysical and have enjoyed watching my friends recieve Tarot readings for a while now. When I went to have my first Tarot reading, the women who was doing the readings told me that she felt that I was already able to read the cards. She showed me three cards and asked me to tell her what I thought the cards meant. I told her what I thought and I wasn't to far off of the meanings. That's when I decided to study Tarot in hopes of being able to someday read the cards for friends. I'll let you all know what book I selected.

I got another deck of cards over the weekend - the Magician of Reider Waite. In the deck is a smiple description of the cards and its history. I got more out of that than anything else I had read so far.

I got another book and will start on that one tonight. We have been so busy at the house lately that I have no extra time for much of anything other than packing.

Barbara - your e-mail is NOT enabled :surprise: ! You need to go to the user control panel (User CP on the taskbar) and go to "Edit Options" and the second box is "Messaging & Notification" - in that box you need to check the box indicating that you are willing to receive e-mails from other members.

I don't know how I missed this thread!!! :hmm: I hope it's not too late to join in! I've had my cards for a long time...right after I bought them, I tried to read the very small book that came with my tarot cards...the book & print was way too small for me to read....I struggled with the print & realized I was struggling on how the book was written.

I guess I was being lazy and started going to Tarot.com & getting readings from there & trying to learn to read cards in the process....my only problem was I couldn't use my own mind to read the cards b/c they were already read for me. I would really like to learn to read tarot, so if anyone wants a partner, please email me.

Pam, how are we doing this? Do we find our own partners, or are we gonna try & do this as a group?

We'll get there, connect and tarto each other to death.

Mon. at 8 p.m. central
or every other Frid. a.m. at say 9? I think Laura and I work opposite Fridays.

Is this right, or are we getting closer.

I also need to find out how to get a side room in chat.

Mondays are fine, but EVERY OTHER I will have to leave by 945pm.

 I shouldn't be this excited....I may turn out to be a flop at this!

Are you both using Rider Waite or another deck?
I've actually been thinking of finally going to the metaphysical bookstore here and "feeling" out a deck. I have the Rider Waite currently.

I'd like to share with everyone how wonderful tarot partnering is. There are 3 of us who are partnering and it is working out very well. There is no pressure to perform, and it is so helpful to have 2 people to ask questions of.

I would highly recommend everyone to try tarot partnering. I cqan't tell you how much I have learned. I certainly look at the cards differntly today compared to before we started.

Anyone interested in getting started but you don't know how? Amazon has a beginners kit, which includes (tarot cards (RW), a Dummies book and a layout poster) to get you started. Not very expensive.

Then you can advertise for a partner on the board. It's a nice way to meet other members too.

How does the partnering work? Do you do it in chat?

Pam
09-28-2006, 02:44 PM
That's one way. You can agree to meet in chat at certain times, and create a separate room if you want, or do it "public". Or, you can do it via email (but trust me, "live" is so much more rich and rewarding.)

Laura
09-28-2006, 02:55 PM
I agree with Pam. Live is definitely the way to go. You can get immediate feedback. We set up a separate tarot room and meet at a set day and time. Each of us emails a question to the others days before. Its been working out very well!
Give it a try! I'm am definitely a newbie at this. I read "The 2 hour tarot" and just went with it. And its been fun!

enlightenme
09-28-2006, 06:02 PM
Live may be more rewarding...but hey, its very SLOOOWWW for me. I have to concentrate and get sucked into a card....I feel others will be WAITING tapping their fingers if they wait for me to read. I'm just not that fast or tuned in I guess..,,, But if people don't get annoyed with me, I'm willing to try!!:o

Laura
09-28-2006, 06:16 PM
LOL! Pam, I've noticed we definitely have different styles!
My interpretations are very, very short. You take the time to really study each card and give a detailed interpretation. I think it makes for a very interesting evening to have the different styles of readings.:hearts:

Fairiedust
09-30-2006, 05:36 PM
And I'm somewhere inbetween the two with a totally off the wall method.

I don't think anyone has been tapping fingers, we just look at our cards with more concentration.

For the question, I do my cards earler, but while we are in the chat room, I pull and interpret right there.

The more the merrier, or more practice, which we all desparately need.

Please come, and that goes for anyone else who would like to partner up. Bring your tarot cards and/or questions. It really does help if you have the cards.

Make sure you have cards you will enjoy being around, a lot. Nothing against the standard RW, but I prefer my Gilded version (seems softer). It is funny the feelings you can get about different decks.

The 3 of us are at different levels even as beginners. No one can really be left out, you just learn a whole bunch.

I've graduated to a new level, I now carry them around with me. Sheesh!
