Please post your questions about the journal here. Please remember that the Journal system here is in Beta mode, and no gaurentees are made about availability or accuracy. At some point if we feel the system is stable, we'll make it a permanant part of our virtual home :)

What's an online Journal?
It's a system that is very much like, a Blog, WeBlog, or an online Diary. My vision is that you and I will use it here for the following:

* Daily Diary
* Day Papers - A morning "cleansing" activity to write about the previous day's events and thoughts, to write about the upcoming events of the day; a way to clarify your thoughts and get you focused for the day ahead of you.
* Meditation Journal
* Dream Journal
* Psychic or Synchronicities Journal
* (ADC) After Death Communication Journal
* Random thoughts and musings.

Public or private?
You basically create your own journal, and decide if you want to make it private, or if you want others to be able to view it. You can decide that the whole journal is open for all to see, and yet still decide to make only certain entries private.

You can make your journal private to the world, and invite only certain members to view your journal. When your make your journal private, it does not show up in the list of journals on the index. Nor will your entries show up on the "latest journal entries" block on the home page. Only you can see your journals.

Can the site admins see my private journal?
Yes, we have to be able to see them in order to troubleshoot any problems that might occur. But please rest assured, that we don't have time to be looking into your journals just for fun. Even if so inclinded, moderators don't have time to do that, because they are always watching the public board and answering emails and troubleshooting for people who are having trouble getting logged in, registered, etc.

Your own mini discussion board
If you decide to make your entries viewable, you can allow others to come and comment on your entries. You can comment back to them if you like. What you'll have, is your own mini-discussion board.

Moderated?
While the open board is semi-moderated, all PRIVATE journals and journal entries will not be moderated by the staff here. Swear to your heart's content or confess to that necklace you lifted at Macy's, or praise your favorite psychic - as long as it's private, it won't be moderated.

If you make your entries viewable to the public, your posts will still fall under our Guidelines and could possibly be moderated. But please, we don't want to work that hard and probably won't look unless someone reports a violation (or unless we want to particpate in your conversations!)

You weigh the options of keeping it private, or sharing your journal with the world. You decide.

Support?

This Journal is in BETA mode. What that means is, it's in testing mode. I will try to support it as much as possible, but please be patient, as I am also learning it along with you! The young guy who wrote this system supports it for free also, so getting answers from him may take some time as well. In other words - have no great expectations in the early stages and we'll all be just fine! :thumbsup:

A few of the features are:

-Journal "buddy system"
-Journal "Search Engine"
-Journal highlight
-Most recent journal entries and journals
-"Who Can View" for journals and entries
-Complete journal and entry privacy
-Comment on entries or journals
-Rating System
-Lock System
-Moods
-Journalists can name their journals
-Export entries in TXT or XML format
-Search in Journal
-Last Entry on Journal Index

All members who are in the group "Registered Posting Member" (member more than 30 days, mininum number of posts greater than 30) can create journals. Try it out, try to break it, have fun :) Report any questions or problems on this thread.

I did notice this, and I'm not sure if it can be fixed or not. When you write an entry in your journal, it then shows up on the journal index of not being read. You know lit up orange. I purposely bypassed it and went to read the new posts on the message board since I was in the last time. When I got done, I went up to quick links like I always do, and clicked Mark Forums Read. Then I went back to the Journal Index and saw that my journal was no longer lit up orange. I'm thinking when you mark Forums Read, that it also includes the journal part.

Any ideas on how not to make it do that?
Clasclar

P.S. I promised I would try and break it. ;)

me again :surprise: !! I can't view or make my own journal, says not logged in or don't have permission. If I try to log in again it does the same thing. When I go back to the normal boards I have been logged out? The drop downs are journal links, journal index and my journal

OK :laff2: ... I'm a Big Goob with an embarrassing Big Goob question... I can't find the journals. I don't see where it says "Journal" anywhere. :shrug: Will there be a way to tell that it's a journal entry and not a regular thread? Clasclar's looks like a regular thread to me, and I can't find the other three journals at all.

Pam, above is how my blue bar reads. I also have no "journal" option. The only place I see them are at the bottom right side of the page, where it lists the latest journal entries. :shrug: I've tried logging out, clearing the cookies, and logging back on, but that didn't help :question:

I am also unable to create a journal. It says I do not have permission. I tried to clear my cookies, but alas I fear that the permissions for my user group have to be changed.

Gail, could you please try to create a journal; we have the same permissions; that would help :)

Thanks in advance
Tammy

I tried...here's what came up. :hmm:

PhilsGail, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Thanks bunches Gail :) That's what I thought. I believe that the permissions for moderators have to be changed for the journal to work for us.

(btw, that is the exact error message i get)

Hi All

I have created my own journal with no problems at all.

I went to the top of the page, clicked on Journal, chose Journal Index, looked at everything and on the right side of the page clicked on My Journal.

It all fell into place with no problem at all... :thumbsup:

My apologies to all who were getting the "you don't have permission" page. I forgot to set the permissions for those who were members of the study group and "other topics" group. You should be ok now, if not, please let me know :)

Pam, I have no problem accessing my journal, however I'm still attempting to change it to a public one, and I also still don't have the "journal" option on my blue bar :shrug:

I changed your journal to public, from my end. Give it a try and let me know :)

Pam, I have tried numerous times to log out, restart my computer, and log back in, but I still don't have the journal option in my blue bar :hmm: I can get to the journals, but only in a roundabout way. Is anybody else out there missing "journal" in their blue bar :question:

Stephanie

I made a journal entry that only certain people can view....if they in turn leave a comment...can only the people who have access to that entry view the comments, or can everyone?

I don't have "Journal" on my blue bar either. Okay, here is a question - does the type of computer format affect access? I have a Mac PowerBook. My daughters who have PC's can play Disney's Toontown, but because my computer is a Mac, I can't play. Would the same thing be happening here? I can also access the journals if I click on someone else's journal or if I go to the Discussion Forums, but I can get there from the navigation bar.

Thanks -

Sorry to bother you, Pam, but when I click on "journal" nothing happens :( I'm wondering if it's a problem within my computer :shrug:This is what you're supposed to see when you click on journal - it's a function of javascript which must be enabled in your browser:

Sabine

It's definitely a problem within my computer..I always have trouble with Javascript :hmm:

Don't mind me, but I'm blowing off some frustration. "Dear Clasclar, don't click Mark All Journals Read, and then go to see if there are new posts in the forum. They aren't there. ;) Thanks, your Brain."

Sorry, Pam. I've trained myself to go around that little bug. Guess I've started on the Green :beer:already. Have a wonderful St. Patrick's Day!!

I how have "Journal"on the blue bar, but when I click on it, the screen jumps, but I end up on the same page..like it is going to go there...as though "changes its mind" and keeps me in the same place. I am still wondering if the problem is the format of the computer.

Pam

I'm sorry Clasclar, I have never used that function "mark the forums read" I only use the "new posts" feature. I'll have to look into it when I get a chance. I'm sure it's just a variable name or something. Right now the author of the journal system seems to be unavailable. Great timing, 'eh?

Gay, it sounds like a javascript problem. If you make sure the page is fully loaded before click and still get that error, it's because your computer is not interpreting the java properly.

Gay, that's the exact same thing my computer does, and since we both have the Mac PowerBook, I would say the problem is definitely on our end. I've always had problems with Java :(

Sabine -

I can navigate other options on the bar, I wonder why this option is so different. I will check with the computer tech at my school after Spring Break. He might have some ideas.

Hi Pam -

I tried, but I get the same result. I just end up on the same page after the screen "jumps," like it is going to go to the intended page, but ends up not going anywhere.

Howdy Pam :)
:hmm: How do I make a second entry? On regular threads there is the reply key but I don't see anything like that on the journal.

I still can't use the journal button on the blue bar, but I can get in through my User CP or from the first JETalk page just fine.

Question: See the little downward pointing arrow on Journal, Search and Quick links? Can you mouse over or click on the downward arrow on "Quick Links" and get a drop down menu?

Ta Daaa! I found my "new entry" button. Thank you! :thumbsup:

I don't have little downward pointing arrows on Journal or Search. Clicking on Search takes me to the Search page, and clicking on Journal I get the same thing gibbits gets, a little jump, but it stays on the same page. And...I don't seem to have a Quick Links button at all that I can see. Is that on the blue bar? Are you amazed that I find my way around at all! :lwink:

OH! But, rememeber my Edit button that disappeared and reappeared on its own? I think there's a ghost in my machine. :surprise:
