I bought John's tapes so long ago, and have listened to them several times, however his soothing voice somehow always has a way of relaxing me too much, and I fall asleep :lwink: I am now beginning to learn the Rosary, and hope to use that as a daily form of meditation. His new book has really inspired me

Thanks for sharing those links Rvt2mt! I listened to all three just now and, I have to say, my shoulders feel lighter, I'm calmer, and I'm sitting here wondering why I don't make more time in my life to meditate. It feels so darned good - and really gives me that sense of peace and clarity I go through my day looking for.
Do you meditate daily? Thanks for the moments of inspiration...
Maria

I started meditating in college when I took an Intro to Buddhism course. For one class we ended up at the student union building in a quiet room and we did meditations on the body, walking meditations, and meditations where you think about your friends and family. I enjoyed it so much we ended up creating a meditation club that would meet once a week.
After college, I would try to meditate again, but I couldn't do it by myself. I went out and bought JE's CDs, they worked for a time, and then I found myself I couldn't keep up with him on some of the exercises. Today, I bounce around. But it keeps sane. ;)

I recently started reading Dr. Brian Weiss' Messages from the Masters: Tapping into the Power of Love and wanted to share a passage from it because it's helping me keep the practice of meditation in perspective, especially when I get down on myself for not meditating more even though I know it's good for me.
Practicing these techniques [meditation and visualization] has been difficult for me, so I can tell you from experience not to get frustrated. Progress may seem quite slow. I find myself getting lazy, not meditating for weeks at a time before I am reminded to resume the practice. I still fall into the ruts and potholes of life, swept away at times by pride or envy or insecurity. We are all human and life is hard. Frustration is a normal and common reaction. We are not a patient species.
As I have mentioned, it is the direction that matters, not the speed. If you are evolving into a more loving, more compassionate, less violent person, then you are moving in the right direction. Like me, you may become distracted, make wrong turns at times, lost until you find the way back. It may seem as if you’re taking two steps forward and then one step backwards, but that’s all right. That’s how it works when we’re in human form. Enlightenment is a slow and arduous process, requiring dedication and discipline. It’s perfectly fine to rest now and then. You are not really going backwards; you are consolidating and resting.
Progress is not always linear. You may be very advanced when it comes to charity and compassion, but more of a novice concerning anger or patience. It is important not to judge yourself. If you don’t judge yourself or allow others to judge you, you will not become frustrated.

Thanks for sharing that, Carolyn. I love Brian Weiss! I think one of the most important things a teacher can do is talk about the struggles s/he has had along the way.
Ditto on that, Sandra!
Carolyn, what an important message! Those of us who are struggling, seem to have a tendency to either question or criticize ourselves for not sticking to a schedule, for what we perceive as not making any progress, for our "inabilities", or for any, or all, of the above!
Thanks to Brian Weiss, and to you, for helping to set the record straight! :)

I say the rosary every day - either at my desk after I arrive in work early , or by my bed or sometimes both I have even been known to sing/say it on the treadmill. I have done this for years - I discovered John about 3 years ago now and it wasnt until I read his book that I realised that I do actually meditate daily. I find it empowering and feel like I have the Holy Mother on my side. I have one of Johns CD's and have tried but , and I hate to say this whilst I find his accent lovely to listen to on TV I find it off putting on CD I have to 'listen to hard' to catch what he is saying. I will keep trying and will also have a look at the sites given, thank you.

What I am learning is ;
1. Try other sites for variety or to keep awake. Different voices, and some with text, and pictures. Lots of options. Please, let me know, if you find other good ones.
2. USE Meditation as a tool, for self-improvement. This www, is for "Emotional Tool Kit; 7 Power Skills to Nail Bad Emotions", a great book, http://www.emotionaltoolkit.com/etk/powerskills.shtml
3. :hmm: I There are so many great options for meditation, I get best effect from "moving meditations," Qi Gong, Tai Chi, or Yoga. But, I'm not much of a self starter there, classes work. It is worth it. [JE is into Dancing.]
4. SLEEP - Falling asleep is not a problem. Science has proved that sleeping before working on a problem, helps you think better. Deep REM sleep is important for health, and a clear mind. So USE it. When I don't feel rested, need a quick safe nap, don't want a nightmare, wake up too early, or can't sleep, out come the tapes. Better than any pill. If it does not work, you get meditation!
5. :jumper: When nothing happens, zone out, or miss big chunks, or go somewhere else! When nothing happens! Like JE says "ding-ding ding!" That's it! As long as your mind stops wandering [everywhere], it is all good.
:laff2: Congratulations!

http://www.friendscommunities.org/images/smile/coffee.gif before the change] There was a special study group, but I can't find it now. Can anyone help? http://www.friendscommunities.org/images/smilies/confused.gif
BTW, it is harder on the CD's, to go right to the meditations. [But i was afraid I would wear the tapes out.] http://www.friendscommunities.org/images/smilies/wishywashy.gif On the CD's, you can't skip directly to the meditations, bypassing the disscusion and theory.
Thanks,
Khttp://www.friendscommunities.org/images/smilies/dunno.gif
You can find the discussions on John's tapes by going to the home page, click "Browse Discussion Forums" on the right, go to the "Healing Gifts & Spiritual Connection" section and click on "Psychic".
You will have to use the tools at the bottem of the page to go back to earlier discussions.
Let me know if you have any problems. :)

 still looking...
I'm working with the JE tapes. I like them best because they each have a purpose. Like psychic self-defence. [Sometimes more than one.] Things like, growth, study, practice, improvement, a better life. He presents study as needed, before choosing a psychic tool, like cards etc. As i study each tape, I have questions about why..... Example, Why hot pink in the Green chaukra, or is it Green and then green with Hot pink? K [Que?]
Here's where you start.
http://www.friendscommunities.org/forumdisplay.php?f=62
There is a section at the bottom where you can look for earlier posts. It says "Last Post Time". Below it is "Last Two Weeks". That will only show you very recent posts if there are any.
Click the arrow there to "Beginning". Every post title in the "psychic" section will be there from the beginning and you will see a long list of page numbers.
You can choose a page and start scrolling the titles to see what looks interesting. The study group posts are not all grouped together and are under different titles.

The pink in the green is there because that is how John experienced it when he started. If I have a criticism of John's tapes and guided meditations (which is really a hypnosis or self-hypnosis technique as much as anything) it is that he is very specific to his own way. IMO, if you find the pink in green distracting or get the colors in other ways, go with your own flow.

green with pink... because that is how John experienced it .... (which is really a hypnosis or self-hypnosis technique as much as anything) Theo-Thanks, That is as good a reason as any. And! You answered my next question too. Guided meditation [which, maybe, is the same as journeying?] -K

Thanks for the links!! My tarot reading a few months ago had a resounding theme the need to "Destress" I have purchased JE's tapes but with the lack of time and a quiet enviroment, I have never quite been successful. Have taken a few good naps though ;) .
School starts here in GA in a few weeks and I will be given a quite house for a few hours. I might dust off that tape again and give it another try. I would really think I would enjoy the experience. I know my body and soul would !!

Hi,
From you're comment, I'm not sure it is a problem. :froggie: One goal of meditation is connecting with the universe. And, Yes, that feels like someone looking in on you. And, is unsettling, at first.
 That said, I would immediately skip to JE's tape on "psychic self defense" and use that for a while, to be certain you are in the clear. It is a great tape anyway. I think, something everyone should do, like brushing and flossing. Just good mental hygiene.
I'm big on being proactive. Don't let the feeling make meditation hard for you. Do something about it.
Enjoy!:hearts:

 Thanks K I didn't realize that was a normal feeling which is why I wasn't more commited to it. I will look into that tape you suggested. I really appreciate the response. Thanks.

Everyone finds meditation difficult, 'no biggie'. :candle: Bottom line -- it takes practice. Many, 'fall asleep', many get fidgety. It is learning to control, parts of our minds, including those that can self sabotage. If you get anything at first it is a great sign.
I think that the 'mind' looks for ways to avoid learning this new scary skill. Let it be an annoyance, not a 'deal breaker'.
Many good techniques are in JE tapes. Some ideas that come to mind are:
1. Strengthen your familiarity with the control room. As it becomes more familiar, you can 'close the door'. 2. The Self defense tape, is good too.
3.But, when you get good at it, the Guides tape...:cake2: [maybe they are who is watching?] Or they can help you find out.
4. at the beginning of the Guides tape there are animals, invent a nice big watch dog.
BTW Oops sorry I missed this and did not reply sooner.

Use meditation tapes, instead of sleeping pills. Safe and fun.
Be prepared for insomnia and stop it, by having a meditaion tape ready next to your bed. Everytime you feel yourself start to wake up, just push 'start'. It works "like a Charm" and does not have the dangerous side effect of the pills, [increased traffic accidents.] The worst that can happen, is you get good at meditation. Oh, and move the alarm clock out of reach so you don't hit snooze.
Kay
p.s. Insomnia is often a symptom of being exhausted, so it takes baby steps to catch up.
Durring a very difficult time in my life i slept with an 8 hour Muppets movies VHS tape. It not only put me back to sleep when I woke up but the happy songs kept the night mares away.
sleep well and awake refreshed,
Kay
