Hello Everyone,
My friend is looking into the tarot and has been interested in it for quite some time. However, he thinks he needs a new deck and is hung up over the "someone should buy them for you" thing.

So my question to everyone is, Should someone really have to buy them for you?

I know in my instance I bought both of my decks. I didn't want to wait around or try to convince one of my friends that it would be a great gift. (They tend to be not as open minded as I am.)

The only "official" think about tarot, is that there are no "official" things about tarot :D

The history is as mysterious as the cards themselves. There are myriads of traditions, teachings and rituals as varied as the grains of sands of all the beaches in the world. No two readers read the same way, and no two teachers will teach the same tarot principals.

I personally see no problem with giving myself a beautiful gift, as a recognition of my own self love and self worth. Everyone deserves a set a tarot cards, in my opinion. Whether it comes from a loving friend, or loving yourself, no matter how you receive a deck of tarot cards - they are a loving gift and recognition of self worth and of your own spiritual side.

The act of giving a deck of cards to another person is a beautiful tradition, but not necessary. With so many choices in decks types and styles out there, and taking into consideration someone's personal preferences, how do you know that you're choosing a deck that will resonate with the recipient?

I recently split the difference and gave someone a gift certificate to choose their own deck. I thought that was the best of both worlds, incorporating tradition with free will.

...I just realized...tartot does the same thing
