I just thought of this question today while in my religion class here at college.

We just started getting into the Bible, and how different people have different beliefs about it and so forth. The professor was talking about the Hebrew part of the bible, and talking about different symbolism and then a student mentioned that in the Hebrew part that the letters have symbolic meaning in numbers. When she said that, I immediately thought of numerology since every letter has a number vibration. So my question is, does the symbolic meaning of the letter's numbers in this part have anything to do with numerology? The professor gave an example, and said how 7 means complete or perfection, like how God created the earth in 7 days.(and of course when he said 7, I got all excited because my life path is a 7 lol) Or also the number 40, (but the way I thought immediately was 4+0=4) has symbolic number of the 40 days and 40 nights etc, but in that time 40 days was like an expression that we would say today as "100 years ago".

Anyways I guess my question is, do you think numerology plays any symbolic role in the bible? I mean obviously it has the connection since letters have the numerical vibration. I didn't ask this question in class, only because i'm at a Catholic college and metphysical topics aren't openly accepted, and not many people know of my interest in it. (Example, the first few days I was here and we went to this huge mall, a Tarot book jumped out at me, and I bought it because I think it would help me as I learn Tarot, and the girl I was with was like "Put that book back that's evil. etc etc". I politely told her that what I read is my business and that the tarot is not something evil in my opinion, but rather an insightful and helpful tool. So after that experience, I've learned not to openly talk about metaphysical topics.) So anyways that's the question i thought of, so any input is welcomed. :)
Thanks!

Hi Amy, sorry for this delay. I've been on tour (this is my season work) and of course my good ol' computer is acting out again. Yes the Kabbala (Cabala) is very much part of the bible. The letters and meanings are not the same as the Pythagoraus method. The Kabbla is a much more in depth look at the spirituality in this area.
Again, my apologies for such a slow response.
Blessings, Lois

Glad you are studying religions. But the hebrew alpha-bit is also a vibration of sound. Acording to the Kabala , each letter is coinsined a number and a sound. And if you read about the Kabala it also states that there god made the universe with sound. So each letter has a vibration and a number so each number does have a vibration. Like a frequency. In my studies of this I have learned alot about not just letters sounds , but colors as well. Enjoy your research .
