I just washed my 16 year old, 4 1/2 pound Yorkie Poo, Gizmo, to get him clean before taking him to the vet for boarding. I don't want to show up with a stinky pup and he did stink. He's old, cranky, pretty much blind and deaf, but he is my baby. No one in my family wants to watch Gizmo since he tends to do his "business" where ever he is when he needs to. :o

Giving him a bath...I prepare first by setting up a playpen with four locking gates and line the bottom with towels. I get out his shampoo, another towel and plug in my blow dryer. I have a small sprayer on a hose that I screw onto the faucet in my laundry room stationary tub. It's deep and he can't escape from it. He has a small doggy door to the outside so I have to close it or he will sense I'm up to no good and escape into the yard.

I get Gizmo backed up into a corner and drape the towel around him to pick him up. He is no longer happy about being picked up and wants to bite the hand that feeds him.

After I put him in the tub, he starts his pitiful dog act, trying to climb out. I get him wet all over, reducing a fluffy black dog to something skinny and sad looking. He gets shampooed all over and rinsed off. I pick him up with a towel and put him in the playpen. Gizmo tries to find a way out while I aim the blow dryer at him. He can't get away from the warm air. He is a very happy dog when I release him and seems to like being clean again.

Hmm...who to sympathize with more -- Gizmo, or Gail? :hmm:

So, Gail, did you two take a nap after all of this?????

Poor baby. I know exactly what you mean about having to be devious when bathing a pet that would rather not be bathed....five towels and a complete change of clothes later we were both exhausted.
