Private messaging has been turned on for the "Registered Posting Member" group. You are automatically in the is group if you have been a member for at least 90 days and/or have a post count of 30 or more.

This prevents spammers from joining and sending PM's.

If you have any questions, please refer to the FAQ above. Additionally if the FAQ doesn't answer your questions, you can post questions here, but please check the FAQ first.

Enjoy!

Pam, according to the FAQ
You may send a private message to a member of this forum by clicking the 'Send A Private Message (http://friendscommunities.org/private.php?do=newpm)' link in the private messaging section of your user control panel, or by clicking the http://friendscommunities.org/images/buttons/sendpm.gif button in a member's posts.
, but I don't see a "Send a Private Message Link" in my control panel, nor do I see the SendPM button in any posts.
As always THANK YOU:hearts: for all you do!

Carolyn, I don't see a "Send PM" button in the posts, either (but I think there used to be one!).

However, in your User CP, if you look on the left side, there is a long narrow panel, and within that panel, is a "box" titled Private Messages. You can SEND from there (by clicking the Send New Message link), or if you have any old messages still in your Inbox or Sent folder, as some of us "old" members do, you can access them there, as well.

(That is, yes, I looked in my User CP, at the long narrow panel on the left and there is no box titled Private Messages.)

I just tried to send a PM to you and here's the message I got --

CarolynB has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.You have the Private Messaging turned OFF in your Profile. Where it asks if you want to receive e-mail or Private Messages from other members, you must Edit Options, and choose YES for Private Messages.

Try it!

If you click on a member's profile, you can choose "send Private Message to _____ ". That worked fine for me.

THANKS PAM!!!! :hearts:

It should only work if the member has the option enabled, though. Some might not want to receive the Private Messages.

I've checked several Profiles, but I'm not seeing any "Send Private Message to________" anyone! I can only see "Send e-mail to ________"

OK I see what you're saying, Jude. If you're viewing a thread and click on someone's name, IF they have PM enabled the option is there. I don't see it there for Carolyn, but it's there for Gail, you, Pam and myself. You can also go to User CP and send one through your own Private Message center, naming the recipients.

Okay, I see what you're saying, mrsjones. When you click on the Member's name IN A POST, you will get a drop down menu. IF the member has Private Messaging enabled, you will see the option to Send a Private Message to him/her. Same thing with an E-Mail Message.

It just so happened that the couple of people that I checked, must not have had it enabled. However, if you view a member's Profile, outside of a post, there is no "Send a Private Message" option in their Contact Info. That's where I was checking earlier! :goofy:

Thanks for clarifying! :)

:laff: Looks like our posts crossed paths in cyberspace! At least each of us sees what the other is saying! :D

I would guess that a lot of members don't have it enabled. People didn't know what kind of site this was when they first joined and if the members were people they wanted to know and hear from. PMs were eventually turned off for everyone anyway.

After they find out we are really a nice group of people, and not a bunch of wacko nutcases, :goofy: , they never thought to turn it on. :)

Sure, why bother selecting it when it was disabled? Anyone who wants it now can just go into his/her Profile, Edit Options and enable it.
