Surfaceinterval's (Sarah's) question:
"What kind of major changes or events do you see in my family/home life in the next 6-12 months and how can I best prepare for them?"
Surfaceinterval (Sarah)-
First of all, thank you so much for allowing me to read for you. Since I am new at this I will be very interested in your feedback. I hope that you are able to find some guidance. I used the Universal Rider-Waite deck and a 5 card Triskele spread.
Card 1 - The Covering - important issues around the question
Ten of Wands
The card shows a man carrying 10 wands with his head down, not seeing where he is going and being burdened by the weight. There is a stong sense here that you have been carrying many "burdens" and they are preventing you from seeing the true path. You have used up a lot of energy and are feeling drained. You need to find a way to regain your energy, either by delegating or just letting go of things that are not that important right now.
Card 2- The Crossing- current obstacles
The Fool
The card depicts someone who is so carefree that they can't see they are about to go over the edge of a cliff. If you pretend everything is rosey, you won't be able to see what is right in front of you and you may fall. The nice thing about this card is that it indicates a time of new beginnings. Although you have no idea where your path leads, have faith and trust your instincts and you will not play the fool!
Card 3 - The Root - past influences
The Sun
In this position, I believe the sun indicates that you have always been someone who is optimistic, who sees the light in every situation, but perhaps has also been too innocent or naive. Is there fear that you have been so happy in the past but that this will not continue in the future? There is a positive feeling from this card, however, that you will continue to literally let your light shine.
Card 4 - The Future - events or influences in the near future
9 of Pentacles
This is a picture of a woman standing alone, serene and peaceful in the garden. She is self-reliant but has retreated from the world to a place where she can find pleasure. The nines are powerful cards and often grant you what you are seeking. The message is to trust your own ability to deal with everything going on around you and take the time to replenish your energy.
Card 5 - The Outcome - eventual outcome
The Hermit
Do not interpret this card negatively. The Hermit in this position indicates that the way in which you will deal with all the changes in your life is to spend time alone. Try journaling, meditating, taking long walks and paying attention to your dreams. You will need to "retreat" to find the answers and a period of introspection and analysis is ahead of you. This card relates strongly to the other cards in the reading - you need to get your energy back and keep yourself centered and whole. It's interesting that the Hermit in the tarot story is actually The Fool (from your earlier card), who, instead of looking outward while he walks off the cliff, is now looking inward. The Hermit card may also indicate someone who will help you along this path, perhaps a friend or confidant who will share his or her wisdom (although I believe it will be a male).
Summary:
Surfaceinterval, there are a lot of changes in your future, good changes but ones that will continue to drain you, both spiritually and physically, if you are not careful. Take the time to focus on yourself and regroup and you will get through everything fine. I will note that 3 of your 5 cards are Major Arcana cards meaning that a lot of what is happening is "fated" to happen and that you can't control the events. You can control your reaction to the events and that is what you need to focus on. I wish you all the best and look forward to your feedback.
Many blessings,

Query: "What kind of major changes or events do you see in my family/home life in the next 6-12 months and how can I best prepare for them?"
I used Medicine Cards: The Discovery of Power Through the Ways of Animals. I used a 7-card spread – The Pathway Spread. If I got names, sounds, etc. as I went along, I put them with the card where they were intuited.
1) Past: Horse (reversed)
In the past there may have been a tendency within your family to have a bit of a problem with ego. Generally, there was a need for understanding situations that required a compassionate response rather than a ‘put them in their place’ response. This has likely begun to change over the recent past with there being a larger compassion for others being expressed. I get a distinct male presence in this situation. With Horse in the reversed position, there is still some work to be done to untangle this whole situation.
Is it possible that someone in your family has become fearful and continually expects the worst to happen? That needs to be dealt with before any forward movement can be successful. Hoarding things away will not make the future more secure and may in fact do the opposite.
Howard keeps running through my mind. (And did through the whole reading, so I give that to you.)
2) Present: Weasel
Weasel seems to be saying here that you have a great sense of observation and can often detect the intentions behind other people’s behaviors. This is a powerful gift that can be used to your advantage when seeking to change any major aspect of your life. You can observe what is happening and then assist in your own quiet, supportive way. There is the potential to change a tense situation to one with a positive outcome. This is backed up by Prairie Dog further down.
3) Future: Bear (Reversed)
There seems to be confusion as to where and what the family will be doing within the next year. I sense that you have a ‘knowing’ of where you want things to be going, but you are getting mixed signals and/or poor advice from someone. (female here) This confusion may be causing some degree of discomfort, maybe even disputes amongst family members.
Are you getting messages in your dreams? Try to remember your dreams and what they might be trying to tell you about the path you really want to take. I believe messages are trying to come to you that way.
Be a bit more patient when making major employment changes this year. Some things are just too good to be true, especially the offers that tie you to giving an answer right away. Investigate all options and follow your intuitions. Whatever you are trying to build will take time; a quick fix is not the answer. There is success in the end, but the time frame will likely be much longer than you may have planned.
4) Life lessons that you are moving through: Mountain Lion
It appears that you may be moving through a time when leadership and responsibility are issues. You are learning that truth and integrity give you much power when you are acting in situations where responsibility falls to you. You are leaning on your own convictions more and beginning to see through deceptions. And yet this lesson is not complete as seen with Bear; but can be achieved with a bit more patience. Meditation could be a great assistance to you so that you stay grounded.
There is also an indication that you need to lighten up and become a bit more playful again. Too much responsibility chokes the energy that flows through you. Have you taken ‘down’ time for just you or for a family activity recently? Balance the seriousness of life with the playful joys of life. Prairie Dog backs this up.
5) Challenge conquered/lesson just learned: Prairie Dog (Reversed)
It appears that worry and overwork may have been a burden in the recent past. And in the reversed position here, the Prairie Dog is saying that although you addressed it once, it is likely going raise its head once more if you don’t take care. This could cause an unpleasant situation both personally and professionally. Step back, take a deep breath and look around. Are you seeing what you really want to see around you? Or are you mired in muck? Once again I sense the need for a get-away or retreat from everything that is so overwhelming. Give yourself(ves) a rest and observe for a bit.
6) What is working for you: Skunk
Charisma and charm attract people to you. Those qualities also tend to repel those who are not of like mind. This helps keep a positive energy flow. How you use this energy dictates how much respect you are given by others. This is a time of great creativity for you or someone close to you. Meditation and inspirational readings will keep your energies flowing in a way that will help you reach your goals.
I hear the name Florence or Flo here. Perhaps even a Lawrence. I think it is the last syllable that is getting my attention. Also north – north of where you are there is something significant happening. I smell marigolds.
7) What is working against you: Raven
There seems to be a lack of recognition of intuition and the messages trying to get through to you. The ‘logic’ in life often shuts out the nebulous intuitive feelings you are receiving. Try to clear the confusion you are feeling. Raven says that you have the answers to your questions but you aren’t hearing or honoring them. There may be envy or jealousy that is fouling the air. Interesting that Skunk is working for you yet Raven is working against you. They both deal with how you attract energy and respect but from different perspectives.
The story:
Sarah, this was a tough read for me. There is much confusion in the messages I was getting. The cards themselves came up in almost opposing positions. My overall sense for you is confusion, so there must be a tension surrounding some major decision and why or what must happen. Are there also times when you distrust your intuitive gifts so that you are never quite sure what you believe from them? The various Medicine Cards are themselves trying to emphasize the confusion of direction.
Yet they also indicate that you have the tools necessary to sort this all out. I think your biggest preparation is internal – work on patience and compassion; practice the discipline of meditations and inspirational reading; try to conquer your over thinking/anxiety; and become aware of your surroundings including the major players in whatever situation is weighing most heavily on you. Trust your ‘gut’ – the 'red flags' that you feel and also the ‘green lights’.
Have you slipped away from fun time? Are you so busy now that there is no ‘down’ time? That seemed to be a big theme here – you need ‘down’ time on a regular basis.
Okay there seems to be a message that wants to be ‘heard’ and I have a female presence presenting it (above you). I am hearing the song “Good Vibrations”. I’m seeing surf boards and big waves in very blue waters with gulls ‘chee’ing. Flipper is having a blast. Sand where it doesn’t belong (if you get my drift). This is a very funny reference; I want to laugh. Is any of this imagery resonating for you?
I hope at least some of the reading was helpful to you. Thanks you for providing the opportunity to consider your question.
Bright Blessings

3 card spread for SurfaceInterval using the Universal Waite Tarot Deck
Question: "What kind of major changes or events do you see in my family/home life in the next 6-12 months and how can I best prepare for them?"
Card 1- The Present- The important event, issue, attitude or influence around the question or current situation.
Card 2- Obstacles -Current obstacles, problems, conflicts and opposition that the questioner must deal with.
Card 3- The Outcome- The eventual outcome of events shown by the other cards.
Card 1-The Present-9 of Pentacles-My impressions from this card are: A matriarch, a woman that holds her family together. She works hard, and enjoys the fruits of her labor. Many responsibilities seem to fall on her shoulders. Perhaps shouldering responsibilities that are not hers. But, she feels that she must do everything for everyone. She enjoys this. She may fuss and get flustered but, in the end...she is proud. And feels a sense of accomplishment.
Also I feel that you are a messenger. You are the center or hub of the wheel in your circle of friends. You have all of the latest news..all of the information that everyone needs to know about. People seek you out for your advice. You are "all things to everyone." Maybe someone once said that to you.
You are a facilitator. You make things happen.
I feel though that most of the time you allow the people you are supporting or helping to believe that they are truly the ones doing it. ;)
(Heard and saw "Joe or "Jo"--and "English")
Card 2-Current Obstacles-18 The Moon-Going away from traditional interpretations and possibly taking this a little too literally. My first impression of this card is that you are fighting time. You just don't feel like you ever have enough time to complete what you need to do. It's like you're burning the "midnight oil." It leaves you depleted. You have an early morning...after staying up a little longer than you maybe should. And you don't feel that you have the energy to get through the day. This makes us quarrelsome and short tempered sometimes. Which is actually maybe blocking you from an outcome that you are seeking. I feel that someone is resisting your ideas or help. Perhaps with a little more "you time" you will be able to feel more peaceful and at ease and relax your stance on the way you think things should be. Acceptance and balance are two words that pop into mind. Okay...this comes to mind now..."The path is cluttered...but, there's still a path."
Card 3-Possible Outcome-4 of Pentacles-Again, I know this isn't the traditional meaning...But, every time I see this card and how this man has the pentacle in his hand and two under his feet w/one above his head I think "MINE"..."all mine." We know that the pentacles represent abundance, and wealth, success, monetarily and otherwise. This man is at the top of his game.
He's special and he knows it. ;) (Although, probably to outsiders he appears to be a seriously humble person shrugging off complements).
Here he is proudly showing us what he has earned and worked so hard for. He stands in success. Yet I feel that he is lonely. Financial gain is not enough for him. Nor should it be. He will once again become restless and uneasy until he finds the rest of the picture that he is missing. Being a workaholic will not fill the empty places for long. But, he will find his way. Be patient.
In summary...I feel like you are the one that holds everything together in your family. But, who's holding you together? I feel a need to really urge you to step back a little. Everything's not going to fall apart if you allow yourself to drift off with a book, or take a walk (for starters).
You need time to recharge yourself so that you can be who you want to be. So that you can hold yourself together as well. You don't have to do it all by yourself.
I may be completely off base and if so I apologize.
And I don't think I really answered your question. I apologize for that as well.
My best wishes to you and your family.
Thank you for the opportunity to do this for you.
God Bless.
Amanda
Hi, Sarah, and thank you for allowing me to read for you :)
Because you gave a specific time-frame, I chose to use a Five-by-Five (month-by-month) spread. Normally, spreads are read card by card. This spread is read looking at the entire row of cards, which will hopefully provide a more complete look at the situations that may arise for you. Hope this information resonates with you:
Row 1: Past or immediate past: The Empress, 9 wands, Ace of Wands, Page of Swords, 4 Cups
Motherhood, suspicion, new project, difficult teen, decision or inner retreat
Could it be that you have a younger female in your life, (like a sister, cousin, etc.) who is facing early motherhood right now? I really don’t know how else to interpret this information. If this is correct, I feel that you will play an instrumental role in helping this young lady through this very difficult time in her life. With the 9 of wands here, you probably already suspect this to be true even if you haven’t confirmed it yet.
Row 2: Present situation: 2 Wands, Knight of Swords, Queen of Pentacles, The Fool, The Lovers
Looking into new business opportunities, aggressive individual, intellectual, introspective business woman, new beginnings, happy marriage
Wow, there’s definitely a motivation there on your part to start a new business venture. All the cards in this row are facing west, so I feel that there is some pull for you in that direction. It feels like the timing is good and your husband is fully supportive of your efforts.
Row 3: Next month (March): Judgement, 5 cups, 9 cups, 3 cups, Knight of Cups
Major decision, disappointment and minor loss, good luck and wishes granted, celebration, message or invitation
A major decision is made which something is lost, but so much more is gained. A message arrives (party invitation, wedding?) which is a cause for celebration, feasting and merriment.
Row 4: Following month (April): The Hermit, The Moon, 9 Pentacles, Ace of Swords, 2 Swords
Inner retreat, intuition, material wealth and comforts, papers to be signed, indecision
I feel that a job offer (or something similar) is made in March, but is not necessarily accepted at that point. April seems to be bringing you some indecision, and you’ll have to go with your gut instincts on whether or not to sign on to this.
Row 5: 3 to 5 months after (May, June, July): 6 wands, King of Swords, Death, 6 swords, 5 wands
Business correspondence, insensitive male authority figure, transformation, eastward trip by water (or overseas business), power struggles at work
Some type of a power struggle with an insensitive male boss at work, probably over a trip or business dealings out east. This results in a change of position, which comes after a great deal of paperwork has to be done.
*Row 6: 6-12 months after (August thru February 2007): Emperor, 8 Pentacles, 5 Swords, 2 Pentacles, Ace of Cups
Older male authority figure (like a father), employment or craftsmanship, abrupt change in plans, balancing financial issues (possibly a boat ride), joy, happiness and emotional fulfillment
Hmm, I could be wrong, but it seems like you will be riding a boat or at least traveling over water, sometime in the next year. If not, I’d almost bet that there is some type of internet business in the works that ships items overseas.
A father or father figure in your life will have a prominent role in helping you to balance your financial issues. A strong sense of contentment will follow.
*this spread normally uses five rows of five cards each, but I added a sixth row since you wanted to go 6-12 months ahead.
*bump* to release the readings.
Great readings, everyone! mrsjones, Zelda, starlasue and freewilling, I can tell you really put a lot of energy, heart, soul and intuition into these readings
Interesting similarities abound throughout the readings, as is usual with the combined energy we get when we do these readings as a group.
Sarah, we await your response with baited breath, but most importanly we thank you for your willingless to help us learn and hope and pray the readings are helpful guidance

Zelda, Thank you for the great reading. I responded very well to your reading and wanted to provide you with very detailed feedback. See below and Thank you!!!!
Card 1 - The Covering - important issues around the question
Ten of Wands
The card shows a man carrying 10 wands with his head down, not seeing where he is going and being burdened by the weight. There is a stung sense here that you have been carrying many "burdens" and they are preventing you from seeing the true path. You have used up a lot of energy and are feeling drained. You need to find a way to regain your energy, either by delegating or just letting go of things that are not that important right now.
WOW!!! For this to be the first card of the first reading that I read, let me just say, it just hit the nail on the head. I often feel overwhelmed and I would not use the word "burden" but.... I've tried very hard to mediate but I just can not stop my brain from making list (I'm a Virgo!!) My motto is year is "ME" time. So I am trying...We will see where that takes me.
This card came up a lot in my reading. I would never depict myself as a fool but...maybe carefree. I like to see this card as a new beginning. This last year specifically has brought my family a "new beginning" and I often really on faith to guide me. My husband's career often leaves me feeling that I do not know where I'm going in the future (as a planning Virgo that can drive me crazy), so I let faith guide and positive signs guide my way.
I love seeing this card come up in my reading. I love the Sun Sign. I am an optimistic!!!! Every time I go someplace special, I buy a sun and bring it home to make me smile ! I always think its cute that my favorite childhood lullaby that I torture my father with was "You are my Sunshine" and I now sing it to my children. I will definitely continue to let my light shine!
This is another reoccurring card: I hope to be this woman in this card. I like the 9 because I was born in September but most importantly it is telling me what I have been feeling, I need to recharge and take care of myself otherwise I will not be able to take care of anyone else.
This card is interesting to me. I often feel so guilty when I do nothing. Even my retreats are over planned or have schedules to them (refer back to the Virgo part). My family would love to show me how to be more like a hermit and ssssssssslllllllloooowww down.
I loved your last line its something I often share with my friends and family "we can not always control what happens in our lives but we can control our reactions" I LOVED the guidance that you me. I think it something that I have been feeling for some time both physically and emotionally.

Starlasue:
Thank you for your reading. This reading was very different for me because of the use of the Medicine cards. I liked the difference that they brought to the reading and enjoyed it a lot.
1: Horse: OH YES !! There is definitely someone like this in my family. Thank you for your insight. The name Howard though does not ring a bell but maybe be a guide I have not met yet.
2: Weasel: As a virgo I pay a great deal of attention (maybe to much attention) to details big and small. I often feel like I can tell someone's intentions are good or for their own benefit. Thank you for affirming those gifts and how to use them in the future.
3: Bear: TONS of confusion right now as to where my family is going. My husband's job can lead us in any direction at any time so we are often looking at new places or wondering whether to stay put. As you mentioned, I do feel that I know what "we" need to do and now I think I will be more assertive about this. Also, the employment issue, he also is looking at several new options so we will take our time and look do our homework before we make up our minds.
4: Mountain Lion: I am leading and have more responsibility now than ever before. In this I think I have lost that "fun" side of me. I know its true !! It is a resounding theme in all my readings and something that I will work very hard on this year.
5: Prairie Dog (reversed): I'm not sure if I ever learned to not worry. Maybe to not worry so much or overwork myself but it is definitely raising it's head. I am now stepping back and trying to breathe and see clearly. I hope it works soon ;)
6: Skunk: I hope so. I am very optimistic and try to positive energy around me. I love the readings but struggle with meditation because I can not shut my brain off even to learn how. I also struggle with both names here. The north feeling is always possible because I live in the south I can only go one direction really if we do leave.
7: Raven: I often doubt my instincts. I hope the Raven is telling me that I should start trusting them more.
At the end of your reading your mentioned a message: this did resonate with me on a couple of levels and I'm not quite sure how to take it. I'm not sure if it's a memory or a sign of what is to come. 1: I lived on the beach for 4 years. We were there A LOT. There were lots of jokes of sand being in places "where it shouldn't". The ocean is my place of tranquility, I've often said when I go to heaven all I need is a beach and a hamock. I love the ocean. But where we lived did not have "big waves". 2: this could be a sign as to where we are going. There are a couple of opportunities that could take us to a place that has "big waves" and where there would be surf boards, where the song "Good Vibrations" began. So those are my thoughts on that one. Thank you for relaying that message. I've never had such a direct mesage before so THANK YOU !!!
In short: You are right about the confusion. We have lots of questions regarding possible changes and when/where. I think I know the answers but I do tend to distrust my gut feelings. I do also need to take time for myself which is what everyone keeps telling me to do and that is one of my goals for this year. Your reading was great !! You really tapped into my energy and personality. Thank you for your time and the energy you put into this reading. It will be something I take with me for a long time !!

Amanda:
I loved your impression of the cards that were presented in this reading. It is as if you know me and are telling the world about my personality.
Card 1: DEAD ON!!! Those are the only words I can come up with. A virgo, a mother, enjoys being needed, loves nuturing her family, yeah that's me in a nutshell. If there is a job that needs to be done, they will call me. It's my love and my curse. I do not know how to say "No" or " I just can't right now" I loved the last part about "supporting people and helping them believe that they are truly the ones doing it" I have two children, (as if I need to say more).
2: You did it again !!! I am constantly asking for time to stand still so that I can catch up. You have no idea how many nights I spend up late, up early, exhausted the next day. ENDLESS circle!! The resisting my ideas, back to the two children part :D My goal (I hate to say New Year's resolution) is more "ME" time. Taking care of myself to better take care of my family !!
3: I'm not sure what the resolution is. I'm not a workaholic but a motheraholic. I'm not overly concerned with financial gain but the happiness of my family. I think that if I lightened up and have fun with my family then I will obtain the "whole" picture!
Great reading. You did a wonderful job. I feel like you knew me and yet I know that you don't. I appreciate your hard work and the energy that you put into this reading. Thank you very much !!

Mrsjones:
Thank you for your time and energy you put into this reading. I loved how every reading is very different with style and format. The month by month style will help me over the next several months in making the decisions that I'm sure to face. Thank you so much for your guidance !!
Row 1: This one confuses me. I'm not sure of any young woman in my family that might be pregnant. I relate to the cards by themselves but not as a group. We are a family dominated by women, and I feel that if there is a young girl in my family facing motherhood, then I would be the one she would turn to. Time will tell.
Row 2: This has 2 levels I think for me and for my husband. Because I am a full time mother, I relate my job closely to my husband's He is currently looking into new employment and business opportunities. Second part is that I have an idea for a business that I would like to start. Haven't done more with it but think it might be great in this area. Maybe NOW is the time !! I also like the part about a happy marriage. Its nice when cards affirm the feelings in your heart !!
Row 3: I'm sure we will making a major decision, we are asking a lot of questions right now and looking into a lot of opportunities. I look forward to the merriment part of this month. Its always fun to celebrate !!
Row 4: I'll take your advice on trusting my gut feelings in April regarding any decision making. It seems I haven't been doing that much lately. I like the sign of an inner retreat then. I've been looking for some time to relax, maybe that will be a good time.
Row 5: It looks like with the new job opportunities, Row 5 is showing the beginning may begin a little rocky. I'll keep that in mind when we are going through that time.
Row 6: This line actuals show me what I thought would come sooner. It looks like it brings joy and happiness and that's enough for me. The part of a father or father figure is interesting because men are strongly lacking in my family. With mine and my husband's father being passed on, I'm not quite sure who that support would come from.
Thank you for this reading. I will take your reading with me and will refer to it as I make my decisions regarding the future. I appreciate your help in forming my question and submitting to the forum. I've never had a tarot reading before and greatly appreciate the entire experience !!!
Surfaceinterval -
Thank you so much for the time and thought you put into your comments. I wasn't sure how accurate this reading would be because I got interrupted several times. But I am so thrilled that you could relate to my interpretations and I hope they will give you guidance as you move forward. As a student reader, and especially reading remotely for someone I don't know, the feedback is extremely valuable to me.
Two other thoughts:
1. I was concerned that I didn't specifically answer the question about the changes in store but I felt that the reason I didn't was because it is SO much more important that you focus on yourself, as you say "ME" time.
2. Another card was coming out of the deck that I didn't use - Temperance. I now realize that this card held an appropriate messsage for you - one of having patience and learning to adapt to whatever happens, to go with the flow. I apologize for forgetting to mention this card to you earlier.
Best of luck in the future and please keep us updated so we can continue to learn.
Blessings!

Update: I wrote my replies on Saturday. On Monday, I was contacted by a young lady in my family with a suspicion that she may be facing motherhood. Since I had mrsjones reading and a few days of warning not to mention a couple of dreams to go along with it, I think I was a lot calmer and not as shocked and she thought I was going to be. Thanks Mrsjones!!
WOW! Someone shut my mouth....
Unbelievable news! And I like that you are paying attention to those dreams.
Way to go, mrsjones!! You are setting high standards here for the rest of us.
Sarah, thanks so much for your feedback! PLEASE keep us posted on future developments ;)
 I think I need a drink (and I don't normally drink)!
