I like to share a story with you ... it’s a true story, although I’ve changed the names of the people involved.

I was talking to my friend, Sara, the other day. She was kind of down and I asked why. She indicated that another friend of hers, Renee, had kind of rained on her parade. Sara has many friends, among them are a number of men. She probably has more male friends than female. She had been waiting for a call from a man, Roy. Roy is someone who was probably is a bit more than an acquaintance, but she didn’t know him quite well enough to call a friend, either. There relationship was a of a business type. Sara had gotten a call from Roy that she had been more or less expecting, but was pleased that he had made the effort. Renee, upon asking about whether Roy had called, and finding out that he had, immediately declared that the real reason Roy had called in the only reason men ever call a woman ... it was about sex. This took some of the real pleasure out of the call for Sara. Even though she knew it wasn’t true, it made her re-evaluate the call. Roy is a man Sara trusts and respects and to have that trust and respect subjected to the kind question that Renee raised was troublesome. When Sara told me this story, she concluded with saying, “I know she’s wrong, but it still makes me feel bad.” I asked one question: “And what do you suppose Renee is manifesting in her life by this belief that the only reason men call is about sex?” Long pause, “yuck!” was Sara’s response. I said, “I’d sure hate to have to live that way. By affirming, believing and acting like all men ever think about when they’re talking to a woman is sex, she’s actively bringing that energy to her. And while that most probably is true for the men who call her, it’s not energy you bring into your life, so it’s not true for you.”

What kind of people are you affirmatively attracting to you? What are your expectations for how people will treat you? see you? understand you? know you?
