PhilsGail & Daughtie's reading

(typed by Daughtie, with lots of input from PhilsGail)

As others have stated about past seminars, Doug (JE's CO stage manager) came out first and introduced John. We thought he was going to do the famous JE impersonation, but he didn't (but that's okay, since it left more time for readings). John came out from behind the curtains to a very warm welcome from the audience. He was wearing a black sweater and blue pants (Daughtie thinks they were blue jeans - PhilsGail thinks they were just blue pants). He was also wearing his glasses. To us, he looked basically the same as he does on the TV show.

Right off the bat John stated this seminar would be a little different than most others because he was going to skip the lecture and go right into readings, with a few questions & answers mixed in! (YEAH!!).

A few of the first readings were a bit difficult, with people who either couldn't or wouldn't validate things John was saying. It was starting to feel a little hot in there and I think everyone was getting impatient and a bit restless (also at around the same time a lady passed out - but Sandy already mentioned that).

So this doesn't get to be tooooo big of a message, we'll just list the various validations. If anyone else who was there thinks of anything we missed, please jump in.

1) He mentioned a dog puppet that looks like a particular dog and has been used to "play talk" to a dog. He was pointing in our general direction and he stated this was coming through for someone "right at the end of the aisle". No one on the other side of the aisle looked remotely like they were going to own up to this, until finally my sister-in-law (who was the end seat in our aisle) spoke up. We had all been reluctant to speak at first, for fear that we would be reaching out and trying to make something fit where it didn't. She (SIL) has a dog puppet that looks like her basset hound, and it's a big part of their lives right now because her 15 month old adores it.

2) He stated there was a mother coming through and the date the 23rd that had just passed. November 23rd was the anniversary of my SIL's best friend's mom's passing. A new baby was also acknowledged (SIL's baby was one month old the day before the seminar).

3) The name Katherine came through…. I think Donna R covered that already. She & her friend were sitting right next to us (& no, we had no idea we were sitting next to each other until that night).

4) JE mentioned back surgery, or severe back problems like 2 discs being crushed. Though my dad died of lung cancer, it had spread to his spine before he died (specifically his lower spine - to the point that he would probably have been paralyzed if he had lived longer), and the spine tumors caused him more pain than all of the other tumors.

5) JE mentioned dittos/ a ditto machine. I made a hand motion of taking a ditto sheet, lifting it up and smelling it, and he (JE) nearly jumped at me (you can really feel the energy when it's directed at you!!) and said "YES!! Exactly! Why did you do that?". I felt like a real idiot (I'm so glad this wasn't taped! Lol), because I couldn't think of anything specific and I just said I used to smell them in high school. After the show, my SIL reminded me that when my dad was in the hospital a few days before he died, she (SIL), my brother and I were with my dad (who was in a coma-like state at that point) when the nurse came in with a ditto sheet she was using for marking vital signs. We launched into a whole discussion about how we thought ditto machines were obsolete, and then how we all used to love getting dittos back in school because they smelled so neat. Several times while my dad was in the coma-like state, we had wondered whether he was aware of everything that was going on, and I think this was his way of confirming that he was.

6) JE spoke of a father coming through that had non-acceptance of an inter-racial relationship. He was staring at my mom when he said this. My mom remembered that when she first started dating my dad (who was half Filipino), her dad made an issue of the difference in race and she had been very angry about it. This was especially significant for my brother and I, because she had never even told US about this!!! (by the time my brother and I were born, my grandfather and my father had grown close).

7) JE said there was a gambling problem on that side, too. My grandmother (PhilsGail's mom) had a big gambling problem with the slot machines (they used to be in all Maryland grocery stores).

8) JE mentioned there were a lot of fathers, all coming through together (SIL's dad crossesd in May, my dad crossed in June, my mom's dad has crossed (a long time ago), my dad's dad, etc etc - they've all crossed).

9) The amputation of a foot was mentioned. It turns out my SIL's dad (a diabetic) had an infection in his toe several days before he died, and they had considered amputating it.

There are other validations, but this is just getting so long! We were all kind of in a state of shock to have gotten a reading. It was so awesome. Any small shreds of doubt we may have had about whether JE is for real were completely erased. The information he gave was just too off-the-wall and detailed to be guesses (I mean come on - dittos and dog puppets??).

It was so great meeting you, Chargeit2him, Lou & Lou, and Scrambled6 (&your friend Lori (sp?)) on Friday, and Ms. Moody, your hubby, CristalO & your hubby, and Charlotte on Saturday (we didn't go to the Sat. seminar, but we decided to pop on by and try to find the Sat. group). Pam- we'll get the pictures to you as soon as possible, but right now I need to get home and see my hubby and son.

Widow and Daughtie,
Thanks heaps for the great, detailed account of your reading. You must be thrilled to know they're are all OK, together and looking after you from the ohter side. You must all need a good rest after the excitement of yesterday or are you still on a high?

Looking forward to the photos and more info from the rest of those who were there.

By the way- excuse my ignorance but what is a ditto machine?

love and kisses

Hi Everybody:
As I said in my last post, I was sitting right next to Widow and her daughter.
I couldn't figure out what a ditto machine was either, but when it clicked with Valerie, she made a motion like getting a piece of paper out of the machine (which is an old-fashioned copy machine) and smelling the paper. I thought John was going to fall over! Why did you do that? he practically shouted, that's what they're telling me, smelling the ditto paper!
I'm so glad you guys were able to connect further with the ditto machine reference, but your instant motion made it clear it was for you. (I'm still jealous though.... LOL) No, I'm almost glad it wasn't me...I was so afaid by that time that if John came to me, I would blank out and have to bear his wrath! He really has no patience! But for all he does for all of us, and all the comfort I get from his work, I'll forgive him this shortcoming. (Boy I bet he'll be glad to hear that!)

Widow, congratulations on your reading. I am so happy for you. What a thrill.
I was at the NH seminar last week. Although I did not get a reading I still came away feeling good about going. He did get into one thing where he was talking about a dog in a fire and then could not validate it. Out of the blue while standing right in front of me he says about a bunch of dogs ( we had a standing joke that when my husband got there he would be with all the dogs) and also about having two dogs with the same name like max1 and max2. (we had ziggy 1 and ziggy 2). I had no time to speak up because he immediately went back to the dog with the fire and never brought this up again. I went away feeling like my husband was determined to get his 2 cents in as fast as he could.
He did do the lecture at our show. Although I thoroughly enjoyed it and he was very entertaining you really were blessed with a whole seminar of readings.

Again, congrats on your big night.

Great to hear such fantastic validations. The mimeograph machine has me cracking up too. Oooh, the smell of fresh ink, best when the paper was still damp!

Julie, about John being impatient - I always think it's "THEM" that have crossed that are impatient. I'd categorize John's attitude when he hits "the wall" with those who won't validate as being frustrated. It seems to me it's the crowd that gets impatient with those that have the psychic amnesia. Just part of JE's personality, and I like that bit of fire and attitude :D

I just wish I was there and I'm so happy for you all. It's great you had such a rewarding trip.

Hi everyone! Yes I am in a very happy state of mind right now but really had "weak knees" after leaving the seminar. John had some very funny validations come up that had the whole group laughing, including him. My favorite was when he mentioned Greece to a woman and she replied "Grease" was a favorite movie of mine. When he could stop laughing, John said he meant the country.:D
Valerie didn't mention that John came off the stage and stood just a few feet from us for the reading.(Heart pounding excitement). I had a microphone in my hand when he was mentioning someone having been in jail, none of us could think of anyone, but the young man and his family right in front of me were shaking their heads, "yes". John laughed at me trying to give up the microphone but I knew it wasn't for us. They had a large jail connection. There were many other readings and it didn't matter where you sat, he went everywhere in the auditorium.

A ditto machine is not a mimeograph which uses cut stenciles, over an inked drum. A ditto machine uses a carbon copy stencil which rolls over a sheet paper that is first drenched in alcohol. Hence the "pleasant" odor. Sniffing ditto copies was the closest thing kids could do back then to get a little "high." It usually gave a purple or blue copy but using different colored carbons (green or red) could give you copies of diff colors. They were a forerunner of mimeos and could make only abut a 100 copies before the stencil wore out. I remember we used to use them in grade school and h.s. back in the fifties and sixties. (Showing how old I am). They were also called a "Hectograph" machine.....

"Julie, as far as John being impatient ..."
VTF, I'm confused. Which Julie are you speaking to? Maybe I
missed someone else on the board going by the name, or being
refered to as Julie. If so I apologize - I missed it.
If you were speaking to me however, no where in any post, do
I recall calling John impatient. Actually, I feel just the opposite. So,
if it was intended for me, perhaps you could explain?

Sounds like John spent a good deal of time with you all - neat, neat, neat...

I was a row away in Minneapolis and could only see the back of JE as he was reading a lady that had gone to Denver and then to Minneapolis just to make sure that she got her reading - she did. As a matter of fact John nearly followed her out the door - she was on the way to the bathroom. We all know what happens as soon as a person goes to the bathroom don't we!!!

So, so glad you could hear from so many of your relatives. What a wonderful gift.

Steve, didn't they also call the ditto machines spirit machines? As soon as I read that I could instantly smell the aroma of the ditto machines (LOL). Funny how some things just never leave you.

Ah... now that you call it a spirit duplicator I understand what you mean. No Ken I'm not so young that I don't remember them. I remember using them in my early teaching career and getting the purple ink all over my new clothes!!! However, the smell was wonderful.

Hmmmm.... I'm trying to decide if I should take offense to all the "old" comments. LOL LOL (just kidding!).

I forgot to mention another thing... Sat. morning as my mom and I were heading to the breakfast buffet, Faith Hill's song "There You'll Be" was playing on the radio. That is the song we had them play at the beginning of my dad's funeral, and neither my mom nor I had heard it on the radio anytime recently.

Tonight after we got home I went to the grocery store and the song came on again! That got me to thinking "why would they suddenly be playing this song again after so many months?". Then it dawned on me.... "There You'll Be" is from the movie "Pearl Harbor", and Dec. 7th was Pearl Harbor Day.
Pretty interesting that we chose that song for my dad's funeral (& think of him whenever we hear it) and then the very first seminar we ever go to is held on Pearl Harbor day AND we get a reading.

This could be purely coincidental, but I'm starting to believe that very little in life is coincidental.

Widow and Daughtie!

Thanks for the great recap! I am so excited that you had a reading! Wow, Mr. Al and you guys ..... this is the best thing since sliced bread! I swear it! Although all these great touching stories and the fun times you had with the other JE Friends make me want to take a road trip to the next seminar!!! Arggg! Stop me!

And I don't know about the rest of you but I am 33 and I clearly remember ditto sheets/tests! Yum! When they were "fresh off the presses" and still warm was the best! I graduated in 1986 from hs and I remember we used to get them still back then! Xerox just doesn't cut it does it?!!! Thanks for a great memory!

We were still making ditto copies when I was working at the University of Denver in 1977. I never heard it called a "spirit machine", but it seems like a very appropriate name in the present circumstances, doesn't it?

Thanks so much for describing your experiences and readings at the seminar, I could picture it all so clearly!

I wholeheartedly agree with you, Daughtie, nothing in this life is coincidental. Now if we could only figure out why ditto machine ink has had such a huge impact on so many in our society, we may be able to start tackling quantum physics.

This whole Ditto thing is just cracking me up! I'm 42 and remember the smell of freshly printed ink on cool paper vividly. What really comes to mind is the one teacher that couldn't stand to see students smelling the paper. She would specificly instruct us NOT to smell the paper. Everyone sniffed anyway..........It was like telling Pavlov's dogs NOT to salivate when the bell rang. Thanks for the memory! (new member, love the posts! :)

VT,
Apology accepted. It just had me baffeled because my belief
system is so opposite. When I saw John in person, one thing I
loved about watching him work IS his patience. (I love it when he
tells people "I am not going away!").
Even if, say, I had his abilities, I could never have his patience.
So often when I have watched him, I have caught myself thinking,
" How do you keep from just going up and slapping that guy? "
Patience is not always one of my virtues, but it is Johns.
Glad that got cleared up.
Julie

No patience? Well, I believe DonnaR probably was referring to when John 'reels them in' or threatens to throw the microphone. He does it in good humor. He has a lot of patience, but I can understand what Donna meant. ((DonnaR))

Sorry to get everybody ruffled up... I was just kidding! Actually John himself says he is not always patient...But I understand he is more frustrated at those that get amnesia about their family history.

I lost my beloved husband this past June, and watching John's work is one of my biggest comforts. His humor and kindness when dealing with those he reads is remarkable. His work is definately underrated in this society.

I want everyone to know I am still "walking on air" today from the reading and have to tell everyone I see about it. The hurting pain I have carried in my chest for the last six months has gone away for now. I know it won't stay away permanently but I feel Great:D. I hope more of you get the incredible chance to see John in person and receive a reading. John says there is an "arrow" pointing over those he is supposed to read and I wish I could have thought to ask if he saw a big one over us. :) (You really have a hard time thinking straight with him looking directly at you, 1,400 people are listening to your words, and he is asking you questions).:D

Widow, although I don't know the pain of losing a spouse (thank God) I do know the feeling of being blessed and the wonder of communicating with someone who has passed hasn't worn off yet for me. (5 months later) I don't think it ever will!! It truly is miraculous event and I still feel blessed and honored. I hope the feeling never leaves you either. AmyJ

Valerie and I remembered something that fit John's back problem reading with us exactly! When he first mentioned a back, he said "back brace" and "compressed discs" several times. Valerie had severe pain in her lower back around 8 years ago. She could hardly get out of bed. An Xray showed her lower two discs were compressed and there was talk of surgery. She said no and she wore a back brace for more than a month. That and exercise managed to solve the problem. This matches what John said completely even though the cancer tumors could have fit also, (except for the brace).

Gail, Valerie, DonnaR!!

I was so happy you were getting a reading. I told my friend "OMG! that's Widow, that's who we met outside!!!" I started to write down everything that JE was saying, that I missed the next reading (the jail one) because I rewrote the notes over again...lol...

It was truly a pleasure to meet you all and walk on air as long as you want!! You did great job and the reading was tremendous.

I laughed when JE kept saying two dogs passed?? Donna said there's a rabbit? JE gave the look...lol...

There was a total of approx. 10-12 readings. JE left the stage about four times. People seemed to get stuck, as usual, and he did get snappy at this one person who could not and would not validate her neighbors son who was coming through. JE felt so bad for this person who was trying to come through that is why he struggles so hard and stays with the people until they can validate something.

The whole night was readings and questions. One person asked JE how could they get a private reading with him and someone yelled out.."it's impossible!!" JE laughed. He continued on to say that they would like to catch up on the three year waiting list first and then they will continue again. He did mention that there are only one or two exceptions and that it is for people who lost loved ones on 9/11. He knew some people who passed on that day also.

Also, in a reading that happended during the night, JE told a man that he knew of someone who passed on 9/11 but the man was not aware of it?? JE felt a heroic feeling.

Carol introduced me to her hubby and informed that JE was givng them (staff) a holiday party. Doug introduced JE (no Jesse) and also the lighting guy and his wife were there. As Aguise stated in her post, they all seemed to be there on Saturday!!! How nice!! Hope their party was great!

My friend Lori, who came with me seemed to have a me to thingy when the second reading was taking place. She could validate half the reading that was being told. I told her that it can happen and does happen. She enjoyed it. And, went back on Saturday with her sister and brother.

Regarding the assigned seats. Actually, I prefer them. It was my second seminar with assigned seats and people seem to be more calm. No lines, no hassle, no one complaining.

All in all, it was a great day and night and to meet more people from here is acceptional! Thanks for the pics Sandy and Gail!!

See ya!

Widow and I were talking this morning about JE's reaction to my response to the ditto part of the reading and I remembered something that I am wondering if any of the other AC attendees can clarify...

When JE asked me "Why did you just do that", I remember looking up at him, but I had a hard time seeing him for a few seconds because the spotlight was shining in my eyes. I asked Widow about it, but she didn't remember a spotlight, so I racked my brain trying to remember if they shone a spotlight on people being read (I'm sure they had a spotlight on JE, but I tend to think it would have illuminated him, not obscured him from view).

Does anyone there know if there was a spotlight on us? I'm just curious because if not, then I wonder what I saw?

Daughtie:
I have to say, I don't recall a spotlight of any kind. There definately wasn't one on those being read, and I'm pretty sure there wasn't one on JE either. I was about 3 people down the row from you, and I sure don't remember a light in my eyes.
When JE said "Why did you do that" he stepped back a few steps in amazement. Maybe the light from the stage caught your eye? Or maybe the other side was giving you a "guiding light" to remember the ditto machine reference!

I was right next to Valerie and I didn't see a light on him either. There wasn't a special light on him when he went to other people. All of the theater rooms lights stayed on brightly the whole time. It seemed strange at first because you always expect the lights in the audience to dim when the people come on stage.:) Valerie kept asking her father to come through with an "off the wall, no one else could know validation for her", and the ditto incident was certainly that. Everything, except for the jail reference at the end, fit us perfectly. It was incredible!:D

I feel like I stepped into a "lion's den" over there. They want me to post more but I said the complete reading is here. Some were insinuating how the dito reference could fit a lot of people.
I don't think so.....copy machine, mimeographer maybe, not "ditto" which happened to be the word used in my husband's hospital room. That along with everything else John said, and it all fit us, went WAY beyond any guesses or cold reading.

CAV to both of you! What a great reading! But the funniest part was the Ditto machine, see quote:
As soon as I read that I could instantly smell the aroma of the ditto machines (LOL). Funny how some things just never leave you.

From reading the other posts, it sounds like this happened to many of us, including myself. I was a student (I recall taking all my times tables and other math timed tests on dittos) and I am a teacher and probably still have some old dittos in my home filing cabinet somewhere. They sure were messy, but what was it about the smell that has stayed with so many for soooo long? LOL
Thanks for the "smelly" memory.

I saw your posting and am somewhat
familiar with that board...it could have
been a lot worse! Especially with the
attitude some of them have about Pam
inviting them here ('recruiting')!
There seems to be a softer energy
there lately though...some of the
'believers' are standing up and facing
the venom spitters. The cynics don't
have a clue how draining it is to deal
with their energy or to be ridiculed for
your beliefs. It is one thing to be open
to the process. It is quite another to
pretend to be open when absolutely
set against it. Like the ones who say
they won't watch the show but will
comment based on other postings.
I admire your courage. Good for you!
