I meant to go to church today,
But human needs got in the way.
When I was on my morning walk,
I met a woman who had to talk.
I listened to her tales of fear,
Then "Come with me, my house is near."
She nodded and followed me inside.
Then spilled the tears she could not hide.
"You make me feel wanted and loved again.
I'm so alone," she said through her pain.
"My family are all so far away,
I'm alone by myself day after day."
I told her I would lonesome be,
if I hadn't gone out the same as she.
I was going to church, no it's too late,
but you brought church right to my gate.
I walked her home, saw her safe inside,
and when she thanked me I could have cried.
The time with her had made my day,
and all because we had met half-way.
