I'm working on the Friend's picture album )and some other things) and I would like to take into consideration how everyone connects to the net, when adding graphics and other items to these sites.

Your connection speed will affect your ability to view pictures, and multimedia sounds and videos.

If you could take a minute to tell me how you connect and your connection speed if you know it, it would help me to make these sites more user-friendly :)

If you need help figuring out which description in the poll applies to your situation, post here with what you do know, and we'll help you figure it out.

Thanks :)

(ps. - if you connect from more than one location at differing speeds, please indicate the slowest speed only)

Pam,
Does the browser or type of computer affect what you are doing? I use Internet Explorer on an IMAC, but have the very fast cable connection. I know sometimes certain emailed items do not translate from PC's or IBM's.:cuser:
Thank you for working on the friends pictures.

Love & light,
Pooh:)

Love & light,
Pooh:) It does, but quite honestly, I'm not that advanced to know how to work around it. I just know some basics about working with connection speed - sorry!

Dial up connection on a PC 52.0 Kbps......

Hope that's the right answer :D Not too sure of this stuff...

LOL you guys :)

And hey just a word to the wise - if anyone is paying for a second phone line in their home because of dialing up to the net conflicting with incoming phone calls....please consider the following:

If you had DSL, you can get rid of the second phone line, and get rid of the cost of that second line. This is because every phone line cable has 3 pairs of wires. One pair is used for voice, and a second pair is used for DSL (leaves the third pair bored, with nothing to do!)

This means that if you have DSL, you can surf and talk on the phone at the same time, on the same single phone line.

For us, when we got DSL, it was almost a wash with the costs, between what DSL cost, and getting rid of our second phone line. Most DSL providers will install for free, and give you the modem for free. DSL is lightening fast, and you're always "on" the net - you never need to "connect".

I encourage anyone that has a second phone line installed, just for the purposes of internet use, to price out DSL or even cable internet access, and when doing so, consider how much your phone bill will be reduced by eliminating the second line.

If you don't know who a DSL provider is in your area, start by asking your telephone or cable TV provider, or go to http://www.dslreports.com/ to find one that services your address.

In our area DSL connections are not available. Our dial up is supposed to be 56.6, but rarely if ever connects at that speed. (so I didn't choose that one). My avg connection speed is 38.8 bps. We've checked into getting Satellite Internet, as this is the only high speed connection option in our remote area. It will have to wait until I win the lottery though ;) very expensive upfront.

So true! The cost of the high-speed internet access provided through our TV cable company was only slightly higher than what we were paying for our second phone line.

The incredible speed and 24/7 connection to the net has more than made up for that!

How can there be over 100 views of this thread but only 24 votes? *hint hint*

At home - Phone modem at 56 K (if I'm lucky) but my ISP has an "accelerator" which speeds up page loading (sacrificing image and graphic quality, however). My vote went here.

At work - T1 connection

Me too, PsyQuestor!! Living in the "boonies" has its advantages, but there are drawbacks as well!

WPBear14 - This might help... make sure that your preferences are set to allow HTML code.

Pam, we actually have 3 phone lines coming into the house! One for my computer, one for our house phone and one for our office. I've thought about getting a hookup thru our cable outlet, which is what we are offered. But then I compare our phone service to our cable service and that makes my mind up for me.. If my computer service is determined by what goes on with my tv and it goes down as much as my cable does, I would be spending most of my time, fussing! :)

Hi Tink

Since I wrote that post (and voted on this poll) we found an affordable satellite internet. I absolutely love it! We also receive our dish network TV programs through it, so no more missing my shows from poor arial reception. (no cable in our area either). It runs nearly as fast as DSL and has a data excellerator too.

I agree with you about the advantages of living in the sticks :) I wouldn't have it any other way.

I didn't see it as a choice in the poll, but I am high-speed wireless. Fast and always on.
(we were previously satellite, but that was awful. Fast when it worked, but very unreliable)

Pam--I didn't answer on the survey. I know I have a phone modem but I have no idea what speed :o . If you let me know how I can find out, I'll be happy to become one of your stats ;)

I hope to lose the second phone line and switch to cable by the end of the summer, but for now I have the hat-trick of internet trouble....dial-up, Mac, AOL......I'm a mess Pam, a complete mess.

Wow, I just realized that I voted 2 years ago! Since then I have switched to DSL at home and *I think* T1 at work. All I know is that I touch a key and the JEF page appears magically! ;)

Most of the time the DSL is great but my ISP is not always the best. :hmm:
