Did anyone see the documentary on The Discovery Channel, today?? It aired from 8:00 - 9:00am CT.

I only saw the last 15 minutes and it showed the Dalai Lama talking about karma, positive/negative energy, prayer and unification of religions! It was so amazing to watch this man express his beliefs!!

I tried to find it on the DiscoverySchool.com site, but I didn't have much luck. I know that this documentary was part of "TV Assignment Discovery," or something close to that.

I would LOVE to buy the video, if someone can tell me how to find it!!

p.

Hi Paige

I don't know where you can find the video, but I do know where you can read more about the Dalai Lama - at his website :lwink:

This site includes his published works (there are alot of them!) perhaps one of these books will be of use to you.

I've read 4 or 5 books written by HH Dalai Lama and I must say that this guy is DA MAN. First off he's hilarious. He has this really good sense of humor and passes no judgement on other faiths and has deep and profound feelings on life death and the ending all suffering. And even though he's the buddhists leader he sees himself as the regular shmoe you'd meet on the street. Some of his views on the physical body are to my sentiment negative and dont agree but those were in a book for monks living in isolation.

All in all his teachings are capital to anyone who wants to learn detachement and compassion.

The Art of Happiness is a great book!!
Heres a quick quote from it:

we don't need more money,we don't need greater success or fame,we don't need the perfect body or even the perfect mate-right now,at this very moment,we have a mind, which is all the basic equipment we need to achieve complete happiness.

You're all so right about this man! What a truly spiritual being, and yet he just considers himself just a work in progress.

I would highly recommend one of the desk calendars, "Words of Wisdom", with a quote-a-day from His Holiness the Dalai Lama. I love having that on my desk, right next to my computer. Hopefully, I will learn a little something! After I tear off the day's quote, I save them -- can't bear to throw them away.

I'm sure you've seen lots of those quotes at the tops of the pages here at the site. They really are "words of wisdom."

Some of the things I admire most about him are his ability to remain so very positive, his wonderful sense of humor (and who would have thought that a Buddhist monk could be so funny?), his gentleness, and his tolerance of other faiths. No, it's actually more than tolerance, it is support.

I'll leave you with this quote:

"I feel a variety of religions is much better because the spirit needs a variety of food just as the body does."

--His Holiness the Dalai Lama

As a matter of fact, I like that one so much, I think I'll post it to the "Quotes" thread!
