Hello everyone,

After reading some of your comments about the workshop and reading Angelina's article I decided to take the plunge and I just bought my ticket! If anyone else is planning on attending I would love to know.
I am very excited about this now; I know it's going to be an experience I will remember for lifetimes to come :lwink:

Maria

Anyone else?

I wish I could say yess! me too!!! I really would love to go!
If I knew someone (who lived here in the UK) who wanted
to go equally as much,(although I'd be soooo poor afterwards)
It wouldn't take alot to twist my arm!!
My sister is a fan of John Edward, watches CO everyday and has the psychic development tapes etc but she would definatly not be prepared to pay that much for a workshop AND flight to the US:lwink:

Clare:)

Just noticed we have the same picture:)

Hi Clare,
I actually have no idea about how the day will be set up. I got no other information about the workshop other than what is posted on JE's website. I would think that there are some similarities, but I also hope that there are new ideas John will share with us. I tried to get in touch with his office because I had a few questions and they haven't returned my email yet. I think I will email them again with this question and if they get back to me I will let everyone know.

Some very recent changes in my life have made this a real possibility. I should know in the next couple of days.<fingers, toes, legs, everything crossable is crossed>

Clare-
There are some AMAZING deals on plane tickets right now. My mother bought two round trip tickets from San Francisco to Heathrow on BritishAir last night for less than $600 total for BOTH tickets, and she's not going until December. November is long way off, it could work out.:)

Phigalilly, Thanks for saying that, Hmmm, I know it is cheaper to buy plane tickets from the US TO UK, than the other way round, because my sister's boyfriends family live in Tennessee and they always buy the tickets there and send them over because its so much cheaper, hmmm :bulb: that's an idea!

I wonder...

I'm mulling it over, trying to work it out,
wonder how many tickets if any will be left when
I've worked it all out:shrug:

I figure if I'm not meant to go it won't work out and I'll have to sell my ticket, but I might as well be proactive in getting myself there.:D I have the ticket, the rest (airfare, hotel,...) I'll do one at a time as I get the money. If I can scrounge an extra $100/mo. I should make it with plenty to spare.

When the ticket arrives I'm going to make a copy of it and blow it up (the copy, not the ticket!:lwink:) and keep it in my wallet so I have to look at it before I spend $3 for a Mocha. It will be a great exercise in self discipline and delayed gratification, with a really cool reward at the end.

LOL-> At least that's what I'm telling myself.

At least part of the expenses for the get together in the Spring will be my graduation present so I'll have some help with that.

Clare- How about the relatives in Tennessee, can they buy the plane ticket for you? Or maybe a travel agent over here?

I'm new to this but I have been a big fan for a long time. I have my ticket and will be there. I am trying to get someone to go with me but I don't think any of my friends will put out the money. I am crazy about John and how he is helping people and believe in the process very much. I have all the materials. What is meant by a "Thread"?

I attended his seminar in November, 2002 at the Philadelphia Marriott. It was GREAT!!!

If I left the ticket on the fridge, it would be lost for sure. I am always pinning notes there, and I forget to check them and then end up tossing them. But - wherever I do put it, I'll be sure to tell a couple of people, because I KNOW that I'll forget where I put it. Nine months is a long, long time. I have a hard time remembering what I did yesterday. :goofy:

Dinner is a great idea for the friends!
I am always in that area of Long Island - even though I live in Queens our favorite restaurants are all on the Island. I wish I could join all of you for the "friends" get together if it happens, but unfortunately my husband and his family will be in the Bahamas that weekend(family wedding) and I am paying a babysitter to watch my kids all day so I don't think she would be too happy about me being out for dinner after such a long day. But if anyone is interested I would be happy to recommend some good restaurants that are in the area - not too far from Uniondale -maybe another 10 minute drive or so. :clink: Just make sure you all have a drink for me!:D

I'm scared too - I was determined to drive up alone but found some friends - Cyndy and Annemarie who are taking the train so I'll be OK for the ride but I don't have a roommate yet - hopeful - If this is meant to be then I'll trust that things will work out for the best. <ebm> I'm excited but nervous at the same time but know once I get there I'll be OK. I am really looking forward to having time to relax and enjoy the place - it sounds really nice but would like to have a friend to share it with. I am new here but look forward to making friends and sharing the experience of the weekend.

I'm considering going to the seminar in November. I have a lot of uncertainty in my life right now with regard to employment so it's hard to imagine planning that this far in advance but I know if I wait I'll miss the chance.

I don't suppose you were at the Houston seminar Feb 23, 2003.

Someone on our row told JE that she could not get through the first tape without falling asleep. He cracked up. He told her something like "just do it when you first wake up so you aren't tired and :laff2: don't listen to them in your car!"

I thought it was so cute rofl

I have been debating with myself for weeks about the Nov. workshop. Finances are a big factor with me but I don't want to miss out on a great opportunity. I'll have to meditate on this one and have a talk with my guides.
I used to fall asleep all the time meditating too, so now I do it early in the a.m. It's really a great way to start the day. I'm very focused and full of energy.

It's a little comforting to hear that I'm not the only one who has fallen asleep instead of meditating!

It's so funny that you would mention the meditating in the car. When I first got the tapes, I was trying to listen to them in the car. On the tape, John says "do not listen to this if you are driving". I thought "why not? And, how would he know?" A few minutes later, he says something like "if you are driving, remove the tape NOW." I was tempted to let it play to see if he said, "HEY YOU IN THE RED HONDA, STOP THE TAPE NOW!"

Thanks for the suggestion to try meditating in the morning. Hopefully, I'll be able to try that on the weekends when my hubby is home to keep the kids busy! With any luck, I might make it through a few meditations before the workshop in November.

Mary Beth:)

I'd like to ask the people here who are going to the workshop or just want to, what motivates you? I am just wondering why people are willing to pay the money for this kind of experience? I guess I am wondering if everyone going has their eye on becoming a practicing medium or what kind of other benefits there are. If some of you would not mind sharing.

Thanks,

Hi Theo,

I figured I would give your great question a shot. I can only speak for myself personally but here it is:

When I was going through the process of rationalizing a $500 ticket I decided to think of it as an adult continuing education course that I decided to sign up for.
The subject matter is so important to me in my life and my soul's journey and, in my opinion, the "professor" is top notch so this way of looking at it has totally justified the cost.
What motivates me personally when it comes to the subject of life after death and spiritual awareness is not so much that I have lost a very close loved one and want to be sure that they are doing okay and that they live on in a higher plane (I have yet to experience such a deep loss in my life). For me, it is more about becoming more in tune with my spirit guides and my soul purpose in life.
I also find great comfort in knowing that our loved ones are still connected to us beyond the physical world. I know that eventually I will have to face the devastating loss of a loved one; exploring life after death is something that I believe will bring me great peace and healing when I do have to go through the grief process.

maria V

In my experiences with other mediums, I have found it so interesting to hear messages from my grandparents and great aunts and uncles that have passed. I was very young or did not have a close relationship to them when they passed so I have learned just how deep and eternal the bonds of love can be. That knowledge has been a wonderful gift from the other side, a gift that warms my heart. I feel closer to these family members in death than I ever did when they were here and I treasure the communication I share with them as well as the guidance they give me. I have also learned, through John's message to really CAV the people in my life today that I love so that I can feel as close to them on the other side as I do today, on this side.
I also wanted to add that I have No desire whatsoever to go and post a sign at my front door after the workshop offering psychic readings; what I take away from the workshop is going to be for me and my family - I don't have the gumption to do what John does - which is one of the reasons I think we all admire and respect him so much.
I hope that I answered your question and I am looking forward to reading about some other members motivations - It really was a great question!
:daisy: Good luck with your decision

:jumper: I am one of the wish I could go types. John has had a great impact on my life and I would love to be able to learn more from the expert. I have had many loved ones who have crossed and it gives me peace to know they are here when I need them and are looking out for me. He has taught me that you are not necessarily the same person on the other side. My step father and I did not have a very good relationship when he was alive. He was verbally abusive to me or just plain cruel for the better part of 16 years. While a part of me loved him for my mothers sake another part virtually hated him. I am not that type of person and it brought out the worst in me. When he passed I was sad for my mother to have lost another husband but felt relief for me in not having to deal with him. John has shown me that we all have lessons in life to learn, Oliver had his and I have mine. He it not that same cruel person there, and I have been able to let go all that anger that I had for him and be thankful that maybe I help him learn his lessons. I now wish him well and even ask him for his help and guidance. Anyone who knew us then would be blown away by how we are now. The person who can open all that goodness has a great message for all. I have no intention of hanging out a sign either. I want to learn for myself, maybe help my close friends learn more about the message. I have always been a giving, caring person, but CAVing people has more of a meaning to me. At least a more deeper meaning. I have no idea what an impact I can make on someone's life, and if I can make it better or help them learn a lesson how great that is. That workshop is all about personal growth.

In order to answer that question, I must first thank Maria for answering *exactly* as I would- we might be sharing a brain! All except for the part about going...I live in CA and the $1000 cost for me is not possible at this time. Other than that, what I get from attending seminars and reading and studying about the after life is that I am learning how it applies to my life today. It has changed me in so many ways, it is hard to articulate it but Maria has done a great job in explaining how I feel.

"Becoming more in tune with my spirit guides and my soul purpose here" sums it all up.

Thank you Maria, for helping me say exactly how I feel.

Welcome to the board, Theo.

You will find many different answers to this question, just as there are many different kinds of people on this board. We have all come here for our own reasons.

The answer for me is two-fold:

1. I have had such a good time meeting JEFriends at the seminars! We all have a common interest to start a conversation with but that is only the beginning. I've had many laughs (almost to the point of tears ;) ) and met wonderful people who have the same and/or similar interests such as mediumship. Many of us also post on the spiritdiscovery board with much broader topics.

2. Personally, I have always been interested in metaphysical subjects, even as a kid. I used to work in a bookstore part-time and most of my paycheck went to pay for all the "new age" books I bought! :reader: Anything that is "paranormally-related" is going to be interesting to me. I think this workshop also covers much more than just mediumship, such as astrology and numerology...

Why would I pay to gain knowledge from John's class? Well that is kind of like asking someone "If you had a choice, would you rather go to Harvard or Smith Community College?". :lwink: John is at the top of his field and it would be an honor to learn from him. :teacher:

Of course I would have to be on the scholarship program because I am one of the people who cannot afford to go! I'd be willing to do the work-study program though! I'd go get the donuts (man, I'd even make the donuts), pass out books... you name it! Hint hint... :D

Thanks everyone for your generous responses. I really related to what Maria wrote as I, too, have had the experience of reconciling with members of my family after they passed. I thought this forum would be a good cross-section of the kind of people that will be there and I hoped to get a sense of the energy people would be bringing to the experience and I feel like you have all given me that. Thanks again!

I have been thinking about why I want to go to John's workshop in November. Before I saw John on TV about 1 1/2 years ago I knew very little about psychic things or mediumship. I had seen the movie "Ghost" long ago, and never gave a thought to the fact that the seance could have had any truth in it- that Demi Moore could actually connect with Patrick Zwayze.

I do consider myself spiritual and was brought up in a spiritual home- maybe a little too Catholic but I din't think that at the time.It was probably my religion that partially kept me from knowing about the metaphysical.

I took a class by a psychic and medium this past fall at the community college in my town. I liked it a lot. The teacher was very educated and spiritual. So when this workshop came up I was inspired to be taught by the master himself. John has a great
teaching way about him and I know the day will be great!!

I have no intention of becoming a medium. I am interested in connecting with my loved ones who have crossed over. I now believe that does happen and I've seen some of it in my own life.

As for the $500, I am now at a place in my life where I have it and I can't think of a better way to spend it!!

Hope this helps.

Peg

Why do people want to spend that kind of money to attend a workshop? Well here is my reason. My husband passed away way before he should have, and I had a very hard time coming to terms with it. Until I started watching John, about a year and a half ago, I was convinced that dead was dead. Ashes to ashes etc. I went to the cemetery, and just believed I was visiting a grave, nothing more.

Than I began watching John. I have been so blown away with the entire concept that now I want to know all I can about it. No, I don't intend to become a medium. I just want the opportunity to learn from John, as much as I can, so I can better appreciate the entire process and the other side. A process that at the beginning frightened me, then amazed me, and now it has left me wanting to know more.

I feel that the money is well spent.

It's funny. I converted to Catholicism about ten years ago and always thought it was the Church that brought me to the metaphysical! The paths are all very unique, aren't they?

So, okay, you all helped me decide and I have a ticket. Now, who wants to talk me through the anxiety of getting off a plane in New York someplace and trying to find Long Island?!! That's like, in an ocean someplace, right?

Theophilia ~ I went to NY for the first time ever in Nov last year. I went alone, my friend lives out there but ended having to work the entire time of my visit. I ended up walking around NY, taking the subway to Brooklyn, China town and seeing all that NY has to offer on my own. Previous to going there I had all the fear in the world about going there. But I got a subway map and asked a lot of questions and I did fine. I loved it and the people were very nice from the airport to the streets of manhattan. I just went back in April to go to the gallery and I took my mother, and it was her first time as well. She loved it. Kristenr from the board just fly out there and stayed by herself. It is awesome. I am going in Nov as well so we can find each other and maybe that will help.

:lwink:

BTW my two best friends live out in CO, they called me yesterday and said they were laying out in the sun...green with envy, even though it is 80 here in WI today.

Hi Theo,

So happy you decided to come to the workshop! I am looking forward to meeting you there - and don't worry about NY, it's not as scary as you think.
You had me cracking up when you wrote about Long Island being somewhere in the ocean:goofy:
Don't worry, the location of the hotel where the workshop is being held is only about a 25-30 minute cab drive (or shuttle ride) from JFK. You will be just fine!

Have a great day!

Thanks again, everyone. I worry about odd things. I don't worry about people, not afraid of getting mugged or anything like that. I just had realized I didn't even know which airport to book into or how far away the place was from there or, well, anything at all really! So, I will book into JFK and e-mail the hotel about a shuttle. And if I save enough money to stay an extra day, go walking about the city. "The City" is not Long Island, right? That's like, a whole different island, I hear.

Maybe I should watch Woody Allen movies to prepare.

I usually use the "view new posts" option. That shows me the threads that have had new posts since I last checked the board.

Since I have only been posting on this board for a few weeks, I think the "view new posts" option helps me to keep up-to-date, and then I can read the older threads when I have extra time.

Hopefully, we'll get to meet at the seminar in November!

:( I have a ticket to the seminar on Long Island in November. I am travelling from Aust with a couple of friends, however neither of them are coming to the seminar with me. One of them would love to, but it VERY VERY expensive for us..... $850 Aussie dollars!!! I am very nervous 'bout the whole thing, as I am not really sure what to expect....also I am just starting to get into all of this spirituality stuff....so am apprehensive about being uninformed/unknowledgable when I attend!!

Anyways, looking forward to seeing you there!

Hello Foster and welcome to the board. Looks like you will be traveling the longest distance. :) There is a very good description on here about last year's workshop. It is on the site's home page and you look on the left side of the page to find "reading room'. Click it and you will an article written by Angelina Diana complete with pictures at the workshop. Go to http://www.johnedwardfriends.org/home.shtml to get to the home page. There is also enough other interesting reading on that page to keep someone busy for days. :D I am going to the workshop also.

Foster, hello  and welcome to the board!

Just a reminder, for safety reasons, we don't allow personal information, e-mail addresses, or discussion of hotel accomodations, etc. at the board.

You might want to enable your e-mail option in your user control panel (the user cp button, top right-hand side of this and every page). That way, other members who are attending the workshop can get in touch with you to discuss off the board.

Again, welcome and congratulations on attending the workshop!

I wanted to mention that during the question and answer period at the gallery I asked John how prepared we had to be to benefit from his workshop this November. I told him I had done some practice with the meditation CD but didn't feel that I had progressed very far. I was delighted with his answer! He said he starts from the very beginning and that we didn't need to be experienced. He explained that we should be prepared to work hard and said that he truly loves teaching! So any of you who are reluctant to attend because you feel inexperienced, feel free to come and participate. Other members who have done this in the past have loved it.

MNT2BE, Thank you for posting your question!
I really wanted to ask this question, and thought if I go to the book signing, I would ask then. I don't think I want to be a MEDIUM but would like to help as many people as I can. I think of learning this as personal growth for me. I haven't gone to any type of workshop like this, and at his website it states if you want to become a medium.
Is this a good enough reason to attend? I don't want to go under the wrong circumstances.
I know it is "meant to be" if and when I go to purchase tickets they have any left.

ScubaCat
07-23-2003, 09:52 AM
My perception is - DO NOT go if you just want a reading from John. That is not what this will be about. If you are interested in the process and are open to experience the class exercises, then you should have a great day!

MNT2BE
07-23-2003, 10:59 AM
ScubaCat, I think you are absolutely correct. John was very specific that the workshop is Not about readings. And Silly all the reasons you mentioned are good reasons to attend. I 'm going to learn more about the process and to become more aware of the "signs" around me.

Silly
07-23-2003, 02:17 PM
Thank you Scubacat.
I am not interested in having a reading. I never have been. But directly associated to my reading I had a revelation. Me seeing in my mind what was going to happen and knowing it was going to happen just as it did, got me to read all of John's books and a year's worth of reading after that. I can't list all the books I have read. I have also been doing meditations and saying affirmations and feel the need to learn more. My biggest obstacle will be telling my husband that I want to spend that money. (Which in my opinion is WELL WORTH IT!)
My real question was do I know enough to attend, or do I have to want to become a medium.
MNT2BE- I mostly want to understand what I'm feeling- to understand how I knew what I knew- And much more that has been going on in my life
:musicnote Silly-but not all the time;)

Silly, it sounds like you want to go, so you should. You should read the article or post that Forgiveness wrote up after her first class with John, it talks about a women in the audience that could not get anything during a mediation, how John walked her through it and the amazing outcome. So far we have a very large group of 30 members going to the workshop, that I have counted from the names on this thread. If anyone else is attending who has not posted that they are, please do so if you want to meet other members.

I'll try to get a group picture there of everyone together who wants to be in it. We can have rows of people on chairs, people standing in front of them, people kneeling, and people sitting. The younger members can be the kneelers and sitters.:D It will be tricky making sure the correct board names match the correct people in the picture.

The workshop is not that far away now.

Sandangel, don't say which airport you are coming from but here are the distances and directions to the venue from the two closest airports to it. I would guess that shuttles would be available.

New York/La Guardia - LGA (22 mi NW) Take Grand Central Parkway East to Northern State Parkway East to Meadowbrook Parkway South Exit M4W.

New York/JF Kennedy - JFK (14 mi SW) Take Belt Parkway East to Southern State Parkway East to Meadowbrook Parkway North Exit M4W.

Philsgail I am coming in to JFK the day before. Some hotels have shuttles. Maybe I should call and find out for sure.

Is John doing the whole workshop himself?

I read about the previous workshop. There is one thing that I am really interested in and did not see it covered in the write up for this one or in the previous one and that is Remote Viewing.

I have several books on this subject and really want to get involved with this. {My guides are leading me in this direction}

I contacted the (venue) and they said they did NOT have shuttle service from JFK. I thought that was very odd, so maybe someone could recheck. I have a link for JFK ground transportation info, but I don't know how to post that here. I will send it to anyone who e-mails me.

So, when we get off at exit M4W, does anyone know how to actually get to the (venue)? I am driving in from Colorado and am completely intimidated by the maps of the area which look like multi-colored spaghetti to me!

HI!! I just wanted to add a note about mapquest, just for your benefit I would also get a detailed local map of the area you are traveling in since Mapquest can not account for any detours due to construction. I speak from experience (not a totally fun one either lol). You can get maps of the area so you will at least have something to fall back on incase a road is closed because of an accident or something. At the beginning of the site you can just find a particular road and print the maps that are in that area.

P.S. I hope you guys have the best time and learn alot!

It's also interesting how different ones come up with significantly different travel times.

My husband had a very large paying job come through and he said we need a vaction so he told me to order a ticket. I couldn't believe it- he thinks I'm crazy but knows how important it is too me. So I think we have the trip planned. He has some business in Atlantic city for 2 days then we will spend 6 days in New York. I can't wait. I am going to miss my kids but 8 days will be such a nice vacation. Cant wait to see ya'll. November will be here soon!!!

Thanks, Gail, I will do that! I just found out that a staffer at my Parish is from New York, so I am also going to ask her. I found that out about ten minutes before the power went out back east and that she is there right now! Praying for all out there!!

WOW Theo,
You are driving in from Colorado? That is quite a jaunt. I am from Wyoming, but I didn't even think about driving. I am not sure I could handle it once I got there. Just curious, but how many days is that going to take you? Are you making a whole trip of it? I am really getting excited. I can't wait to get together with everyone. 3 more months. Whoo hooo!

Well,
I procrastinated too long and let the opportunity slip away from me. I like to look at it this way, I guess it wasn't meant to be. I will make sure I go to the next workshop though! I will try not to kick myself too hard......... Maybe there will be a ticket somewhere for sale... Ya never know.
I'll wait patiently to read how the experience goes for you all! In the meantime, I will order his cd's and practice. (Not to mention look for other workshops to go to)

Terry, since we are in the same area, meditate of these three words:

DIA.....November.....Blizzard

Three days out, maybe two long days back. I was really worried about it but a good friend just got back from visiting his nephew who is an actor who lives in Harlem. He gave me the whole skinny on not getting lost and what bridges to take and even what the tolls are.

It's gonna be fun! A spiritual trek across country!

i know exactly what you mean LADreamr! I was able to speak to him and shake his hand at the book signing in freehold and it was just incredible. he is so humble and down to earth. thats why i was curious if the group attending the workshop would be able to talk to him. 350 seems so small compared to the crowds ive been to see him--in chicago over 2500 people and i believe about the same for the freehold book signing.. so who knows!!!

I'll be there at the workshop - I know it's costing a fortune (flights/trains/tickets/hotels etc....) but it makes me feel so much better to have read all of your posts. I was really worried that I wouldn't be able to keep up with the pace, but now I've read that some of you feel the same way and that's great!

It will be easy to run into each other at the location since it is a pretty small crowd and place, as compared to a seminar. Everyone there will also have lunch together during the workshop. It's OK if you want to keep your identity to yourself.

I can't imagine that any other group will have the number of people going that we will. :)

AmyRose, occasionally, there is a cancellation, or something comes up and someone who bought a ticket can't make it, after all, just like with seminar tickets.

That's why it's always good to put in a request in the "Looking For Tickets" sub-forum.

You never know who may contact you, offering that elusive ticket!

Look at it this way, if John spent 5 minutes with each person there (5 X 350) it would take him over 29 HOURS to work his way through the crowd. Even spending one minute with each person would take almost 6 hours! I'm sure there will be a few casual conversations, but I would never impose myself on him that way. I'm just happy he's giving his attention to the group for the whole day!

I will be wearing either jeans, or something equally casual and most importantly, comfortable! I'm thinking wearing layers is advisable since we don't know what the heating/cooling system is like in the hotel.

Here's the current forecast for that area of Long Island as of today (11/9) sure to change as the days go by:

Friday
Mostly cloudy. A chance of snow showers during the day. Low in the upper 20s and high in the upper 30s.

Saturday
Partly cloudy. Low in the mid 20s and high in the lower 40s.

Sunday
Partly cloudy. Low in the mid 20s and high in the mid 40s.

It was very comfortable in the hotel but cold in the room the 9-11 Bridges seminar was held in. The workshop is in that same hotel.

Every place I've seen John in has been on the cold side. Think he likes it that way. :) Dressing in removable layers should keep everyone comfortable.

I just called the Marriott and found out that they do not have a shuttle service to and from the airport but they also do not recommed using a taxi.
They set me up with a pick up service that will meet me in baggage claim area and take me to the hotel. It will cost $45 for the ride. (Per car) So if anyone else is coming it at that time you can ride with me to the Marriott Noon time friday 11-14-03 . This is for JFK airport.

Teresa02,
I would imagine that the hotel is trying to safe guard their guests from dishonest taxi cab drivers. The last time I was in JFK airport which was earlier this year, they have it set up pretty well. You go to the Taxi stand and wait in line. The next available will take you to your destination. As long as you ask the cab driver how much it will be (even though they use a meter) they should be able to tell you the approximate cost.

To be honest with you the $45 that sandangle was talking about seems like a good deal. The ride from the airport should take about 30 minutes or so. I live 10 minutes from JFK and it cost me $20. You may be better off calling the hotel to set up the same deal that she did. I know it may be difficult for you to make the phone calls from the UK so if you like I can arrange it for you. Send me an email through my profile if you’d like.

That offer also goes for anyone else that may need some help. I feel like if you’re coming to my town, it’s the least I can do.

See you all on Saturday!

One thing all of you going back to the airport on Sunday can do is find out who else is going, get together at a certain time, and share the ride back. It would be a shame if a lot of single people spent a lot of money on individual transports. While we are together in groups, put the word out that you want to share. :) We are a sharing group.

I have the schedule and did a practice run for the workshop. It is pretty slick and none stressfull once you get on the train. And the guy who runs the taxi place where we stop is pretty funny.

The restaurants don't open for breakfast until 7am. I know one of them has a choice of a buffett breakfast or order off the menu. We will be having a lunch provided so I'm eating very light for breakfast.

May even take some rolls and drink the coffee or tea provided in our room. You have ice and buckets so you could even take some juice and keep it cold.

I just called the Marriott and found out that they do not have a shuttle service to and from the airport but they also do not recommed using a taxi.

Actually, they do recommend a SPECIFIC taxi ...

The transportation person suggested the following options:
#1. "When you land, call All Seasons Taxi @516-333-3131. The charge will be $35.00 for the first person and $5.00 for each additional person. Whatever you do, do not take a yellow NYC taxi!"
#2. Is the option you mentioned
"There is a 20% gratuity for both of these."

you can ride with me to the Marriott Noon time friday 11-14-03 . This is for JFK airport.

I am arriving at 1:45 so I guess that would be too late to connect with you...?

I guess I better bring some warm weather (and some warm clothes) with me from sunny Florida...........Sandangel

I also am flying in from 'Sunny Florida' and have some concern about appropriate clothing...especially if it snows...

SNOW!?!??! Better pack some gloves then!

I'm just about to start sorting my packing out now - I've been uncontrollably (is that a word) excited today. My hubby will be wanting rid of me by Saturday!

I've told Mum and Dad expect a really hyped up "me" when I call them after the workshop!

I've opted for the second choice regarding the taxi! Anyone landing at JFK on Thursday?

I have actually been told different things about the shuttle. At first I was told that they did not have a shuttle. Then when I called again they transfered my call directly to a private shuttle that services the Marriott. I was told that it would be $45 + gratuity for up to 4 passengers and a Cab from JFK to the Marriott would be $44 + gratuity if the cab driver was honest if not it could be as high as $109 + gratuity. I signed up for the shuttle. You do have to reserve it - he said that he only has 2 cars/drivers and is not limited to the one hotel. He may be booked up by now though and I don't have the number since I called the Marriot and they connected me.

Something to do with the cabs crossing their border they told me. They may not tell you about it until you get to the hotel apparently ............

Well it's time for bed (for me anyway!!!) will talk to you all tomorrow - leaving at 7pm to get the train to the airport!

I'm SO EXCITED!!!

Scubacat, you don't have the option for anyone to email you enabled. You have to go to your profile and change it. Right now no one can contact you.

A word of caution about the taxis from the airports! And the LIRR!

I grew up on Long Island, as a matter of fact in the very town that the Marriot is located. Most traditional taxi cabs in NY are loathe to drive anyone that far out on the island, in fact, chances are most, if not all, will down right refuse it, which is why the hotel is suggesting that you call specific car services that will transport you to the hotel. They are called "limo services" in NY, even though they are not really limos they are usually vans or big cars. It's a good idea to reserve in advance and have directions to where you are going also (unless it is a service that frequently drives to the Marriott), because sometimes the drivers do not know

It will take at least 30-45 minutes to get to Uniondale from either airport, depending on traffic.

If you are taking the LIRR from Penn Station, you'll need to arrange for transportation from the train station as well. The closest station to the hotel is either Hempstead (which I don't recommend, bad neighborhood) or Mineola/Garden City (much better choice).
It's possible that you will be able to call a cab from the train station, but keep in mind that very often the train stations have no personnel to help you, especially on weekends, they are all automatic now (ie, buy your ticket from a machine).

Look forward to seeing everyone there!

Gail, I don't understand. I double checked it before posting last night. The only option I have "no" selected for is "Use 'Email Notification' by default?". What else do I have to do? I have received emails from others here before.

Sandangel - I don't have a cell phone, but I guess I could find a public phone in the airport to call you if necessary. I hope we can just plan a time and place to meet once we get this email thing working.

We appreciate all that you do!

Of course all of you left behind will be so well behaved, no moderating will be needed. :)The mods left behind would rather be going to the workshop too. :(

No jumping up and down and singing, "Ding dong, the Mods are gone". :D
