John: One of the questions I'm often asked is, am I psychic? Not meaning me, but you watching at home.

Audience member: Do you have premonitions?

John: I have them quite often.

AM: If it's something bad, how do you deal with that.

John: 10 out of 10 times, when somebody is having an intuitive flash, it's going to be negative. And the reason why it's negative is not because of any other reason except for the fact that you remember it. You might be getting positive things as a thing coming up, where you might be getting things, but you don't react the same way. It doesn't have the same impact on you. But if you continue to develop your abilities, that would lessen and you would get other types of information. It's your guide's way of making you pay attention to what's happening around you.

John: Today we will address those issues and how to tap into your ability. And my friend, Sandy Anastasi, is the only person who can claim to have been my teacher. Welcome back.

Sandy Anastasi: Thank you.
(Applause)

John: So I know that you've been doing readings for many, many years because you're one of the few people who read me but you've been teaching for a lot of years. Because you teach more than I teach, how would you suggest somebody begins to tab into their intuition and psychic abilities?

SA: The first tool I try to give to my students is to learn to meditate. I believe that everyone is psychic. Everyone picks up intuitive information all the time in many different ways but if you
don't have a calm center within yourself, you don't have a way of knowing if that information is yours or somebody elses.

John: I confess. I hated meditation.

SA: I know. (smiles)

John: What do you think of when you think of meditation? You think of some dude in a robe climbing up a mountain, the whole -- you know. (Laughter) And it's not what you would think. You know, you could be watching tv, you could be reading a book. It's focusing. Do you do it alone, do you suggest tapes? What are the options?

SA: Those are great options. One of the best ways are through Tai Chi moving meditations. A lot of people get into drawing or painting, total focus on a canvas. And long-distance runners, as they pass through the pain-threshold, they're free. That's a form of meditation. So different people can utilize meditative techniques that are physically oriented but the traditional one is to sit and focus on your breath and still the mind until there's no awareness of anything around you.

Please don't use guided visualization as meditation. There are a lot of people out there saying, I will teach you how to meditate. Let's guide you through being a bird. That's the opposite. It opens you to suggestion. Don't confuse that with meditation. The object of meditation is mental focus. It teaches you to focus your mind so you're not susceptible to other suggestions.

I say, first get yourself a binder that you call a do-good book. And you're going to record in it all of your psychic experiences, even little ones, you thought of somebody and the telephone rang and they were on it. Those are psychic do-goods. You need that positive reenforcement and saying to yourself, yes, I'm doing this.

And the second book is a telepathy workbook. Because I suggest you get a partner together to send and receive. To be able to see where you are when you're not physically with the person. And the result of that, telepathy exercise is in the second book. You get feedback and gain control over what you're learning.

And the third book, people should record their dreams. And analyze them. For the average person, the best way to get in touch with your own inner self, and psychic self, is your dreams. Your higher self is a great place to do it.

John: And you encourage somebody to develop their own intuition and tap into psychic abilities, you're doing so not to turn out professional psychics to do readings for other people. That's not the reason. How do you define that?

SA: Personally, I think that everyone is psychic. Everyone -- if I had my way, children who are 5 years old would be learning to develop their abilities instead of closing them down. If your psychic abilities are developed, it will enhance every aspect of your life, you will have better insight, make better joyces, get along with others. It's a phenomenal tool to have in your life. Out of the people that I train, 10% of them maybe become professional psychics. Most people they train go into their life and utilize those abilities to be a better husband, better wife, have greatest insight into their families and children

John: Thank you for being on the show and answers questions and sharing some more of your teaching and knowledge for everybody that watches Crossing Over. Thanks again. (Applause)

Thanks Pam!

Guess by their definition I must be hardheaded! My intuitions about stuff is usually negative - guess my Spirit Guide has to work really hard to get my attention. :lwink:

Actually I found the show (and now this transcript of it) to be very instructional. Thanks for getting this down for us.

I saw this program! What stands out for me is John's look of surprise when Sandi stated not to use guided visualizations as meditation. First thing I thought of was the tapes he made in the How To Develop Your Psychic Abilities.

So, now my question is, if we are to meditate as Sandi stated, when do the tapes come into play?

I had the same question, and same thought when she said that about "guided meditations". That's what I always thought John's meditations were.

As I think about it, I think maybe the tapes (John's) are an instructional tool, not meant to be used over and over again for actual practice. Maybe they are meant for "beginners" to get used to meditating, breathing, and understanding how to open the chakras. Also to open you up to meeting someone Crossed Over in the Gazebo.

Maybe the goal is the type of meditation that Sandy describes? I think it's impossible to be completely "mindless" during meditation, in fact they said so during the workshop.

I find that if I dont use the tapes to "guide" me, I end up taking shortcuts and usually just go directly to the gazebo or the psychic room. No breathing, no elevators, stairs, etc. I do consciously open up the chakras but thats about it. And when I get to where I want to be, I dont think about why Im there or what it looks like or who is there as well...and Im always alone unless I consciously put someone else in with me which we are not supposed to do...Im just there, wherever it is...by my self...with no messages coming or going.

The tapes help me to visualize by creating those places. So that makes me wonder if Im creating the people that I see when I use the tapes.

Its like a merry-go-round.

I think it is one of those things where you take what works for you and run with it.

Sometimes I love guided meditations, especially when I have been running at a hectic pace. Other times, they distract me and I do better on my own.

So I don't think there is a right or wrong, just what works and doesn't work in any given period of time.

That's half the fun - discovery! :jumper:

BTW Irish - I try to take a lot of shortcuts too! :lwink:

Both of these methods are called meditation, which makes it a bit confusing. They are actually distinctly different animals. The guided meditations are great for two purposes. They help a beginners mind begin to focus, relax and give a way to meet guides in a formal framework. The quiet non-guided meditations are where the real soul work is done. This is where you get to know you. So, as Sandy says, when you hear an outside thought you will be able to recognize it as such. Both types of meditation are great tools for growth.

Pam - In another thread about John developing his abilities you mentioned that he meditated for "hours a day". I've never read that anywhere else or heard him say that. He confesses here that he hated meditation. Can you tell me where you got that information? I've always wondered about that.

I don't remember exactly where I heard him say that, at the moment, but I'll give my ADD brain a day to think about it :)

He said he hated meditation at first, when he was a kid.
