Namaste!

What Are Chakras?

The word chakra is a Sanskrit word which is derived from the verb car (“to move”). There are several literal meanings of chakra:

  • wheel
  • circle
  • center

The spine and the human energy field contain chakras, or energy centers, that vibrate at different frequencies. Each chakra presents us with the opportunity to establish a root relationship and to satisfy a deep soul desire. Each frequency holds the gift of a certain power, which enhances our human experience on Planet Earth. As we tune into this power, we are internally empowered to deal with the specific life challenges of that energy center or chakra and as a consequence to live more whole, meaningful and fulfilling lives

The Human Energy Field or Aura is an energetic, multidimensional field that surrounds penetrates, and is the human body. It has rivers of energy called meridians that nourish every organ and cell in our bodies. These rivers are supplied by cone shaped vortexes of energy called chakras. These chakras, in turn, collect energy from the Universal Energy Field that is all around us. When blocks accumulate in the field, a disruption in the flow of energy through the Chakras result. It is these blocks that disrupt the harmony in the field and eventually are the cause of disease, as well as, emotional and mental disorders in the physical body. During a healing session, the field is cleared of blocks, the chakras are restructured and a new level of awareness is reached.

It’s important to realize that chakras are, by definition, non-physical. Therefore, they do not exist in the same kind of space as a heart or a house per se.

What Do Chakras Do?

As we progress, the lessons and energy we experience on a day-to-day basis will stimulate a particular chakra center. The chakras affect the regulatory flow of energy, which results in an effect of the physical body.  The chakras energy manifests in the body when we’re working on issues that relate to the purpose or function of that chakra.

When you learn the positive force of the lessons you experience, and can move the spirit forward, the energy of the chakra works with you instead of against you.

Cultures & Religions

People have known about these energy centers or vortexes for thousands of years. Hindu religions as well as Buddhists, Christians, Jews and Muslims all include information of these centers in their holy writings. Many cultures around the world are steeped in the beliefs of sacred energies within the physical body.

The Sumerians may have been the first to study these centers, which had cycles and seemed to exist for them in real time and space. These areas of the human form could be detected by the physicians of their day.

In ancient China right up through modern times, doctors of medicine and healing are taught about these vortexes and how they operate.

How Many Chakras Are There?

The traditions that teach of chakras have always spoken of seven. However, we live in a time of increased spiritual awareness, a time when new information is ready to cross the boundaries between All That Is and Earth.

Modern tradition says that there are many, many chakras; seven were all that mattered because of the state of humanity’s development; and that now, we can take advantage of twelve. Three of the five additional chakras are “located” beyond the physical body, while the other two connect the traditional seven to the planet itself; by sending our point-of-consciousness to them, we stretch our ability to perceive at a distance.

Getting To Know The Power Centers Of Your Body –

The Seven Chakras:

The first chakra:
also called “the root chakra.” Located at the base of the spine. It is linked to survival instincts and our ability to ground ourselves in the physical world.  It’s colour is red.

Connection to our physical body – (root) spinal column, rectum, legs, bones, feet and immune system.

Connection to our emotional/mental body – foundation of emotional health. Originates out of the family unit and early social environments.  (ie. depression, compulsive disorders, destructive patterns –alcoholism). Blockage manifests as paranoia, defensiveness

Symbolic connection –   need for logic, order and structure.

The second chakra: Located just beneath the navel, and related to our sexual and reproductive capacity.   It’s colour is orange.

Connection to our physical body –  sexual organs, large intestine, lower vertebrae, pelvis, hip area, appendix and bladder.

Connection to our emotional/mental body – resonates to our need for relationships with other people and our need to control to some extent (authority, other people, money).    Blockage manifests as emotional problems or sexual guilt.

Symbolic connection – personal identity, personal strength, survival instinct for being in the world.

The third chakra: located behind the solar plexus, which gives us a sense of our personal power in the world. It’s colour is yellow.

Connection to our physical body – stomach, pancreas, adrenals, upper intestines, gallbladder, liver and middle spine.

Connection to our emotional/mental body –  personal power center, personality and ego.  Blockage manifests as anger or a sense of victimization.  Consist of issues related to self-responsibility, self-esteem, fear of rejection, criticism.

Symbolic connection – how we relate to people around us to how relate to and understand ourselves.

The fourth chakra: the heart chakra, which gives us the ability to express love.  It’s colour is green.

Connection to our physical body – heart and circulatory system, ribs, chest, glands, lungs, shoulders, arms, hands, diaphragm.

Connection to our emotional/mental body –  emotional perception, which determine the quality of our lives far more than our mental perceptions.  Blockage can manifest as immune system or heart problems, or a lack of compassion

Symbolic connection –  letting go, inner peace (why things have happened). Reaching a state of conscious evolution. Reaching a state of tranquility.

The fifth chakra: located in the throat, directly tied to creativity and communication. It’s colour is blue.

Connection to our physical body – throat, thyroid, esophagus, neck, vertebrae, mouth, jaw, teeth.

Connection to our emotional/mental body – willpower, earning the power of choice.   Blockage manifests as problems like laryngitis or sore throats, creative blocks or general problems communicating with others.

Symbolic connection –  the maturity of your will and earning that everyone and everything around you has authority over you, to reaching your final perception that true authority comes from aligning yourself with God.

The sixth chakra: “the third eye.” Located between the eyebrows, this chakra is the seat of intuition and awareness. It’s colour is indigo (blue & green).

Connection to our physical body –  neurological system, pituitary and pineal glands, eyes, ears and nose.

Connection to our emotional/mental body – links us to our mental body, our intelligence and psychological characteristics.   Blockage manifests as sinus or eye problems.

Symbolic connection – wisdom,  having an open mind.  Learning wisdom through life experiences and by acquiring the ability of detachment.

The seventh chakra: “the crown chakra”, located at the top of the head. This is related to one’s personal spiritual connection to the universe. It’s colour is violet.

Connection to our physical body – human life-force (body, mind, spirit) from the universes, from God.   This distributes throughout the physical body to the lower six charkas.  This chakra influences that of the major body system.

Connection to our emotional/mental body – devotion, inspirational, thoughts, ideas. Blockage manifests as psychological problems.

Symbolic connection – purest form of the energy of grace.  It is the energy center for the spiritual insight, vision and intuition far beyond human consciousness.  A realm to the Divine.

NOTE:  The chakras can become easily blocked, making us feel sick or out of balance. You can clear the chakras by visualizing cleansing light pouring into them.

When a chakra is fully awakened, it means that your consciousness is attuning to and integrating the spiritual aspects associated with that chakra.

Also, if one chakra is not fully balanced, it can affect the others, they need to all be aligned.

The Other Five Charkas – known as Out-of-Body Chakras

Below is some information on these other five charkas that I felt were important to bring to your attention. This information is credited to Cyndi Dale, author of the book “New Chakra Healing”, which is a recommended read.

These five charkas connect to the physical body, but are not located or based within it.  They serve as intermediaries between the higher, invisible charkas and the in-body charkas.  (The lower seven charkas meld our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual energies with the glue of the physical).  The outer five combine the visible and invisible, working most frequently with elemental and celestial energies.  Elemental energies pertain to the type of  quanta creating the earth plane – fire, water, air and earth.  Celestial energies run on a faster, higher frequency, probably through tachyons -particles which move faster than the speed of light.

Some believe that the top five charkas work an alchemy of their own.  They are the charkas through which magic is wrought, imagination becomes real, humanity receives salvation.

The eight chakra:  It is located about an inch and a half above the head.  This chakra ties in with knowledge, karmic memory, access to other dimensions and times.   May affect the metabolism, relationships, chronic problems, diseases. Problems that have been carried over from a previous life.   It’s colour is silver or ultraviolet.

The ninth chakra:  The soul chakra.  Located one arm’s length above the head.  Creation and change energy, the master plan – life seeds.  Within this chakra lay the fundamental seeds of our soul purpose and information regarding our life purpose and life tasks.  It’s colour is gold or infrared.

The tenth chakra:  The grounding chakra.  Located one to four feet under the feet.  Energy needed to spiritualize our body.  Chooses physical characteristics form our gene pool to help us meet lifetime challenges.  Through our feet it transport information from our past lives.  Through our legs, it transport  information from our lineage.  It’s colour are earth tones.

The eleventh chakra:  Located around the hands and feet.  This chakra can transmute charged external physical or emotional energy into the raw energy our body needs to think, react and respond. Receiving or sending energy designed to meet our needs or deals with situations.  It’s colour is pink.

The twelfth chakra:  It is a collection of thirty-two points on the body (ie. arms, elbows, legs, knees, thighs, stomach, spleen etc.) and in the aura.  This chakra ensures the connection between natural forces and our own body.  It determines us as humans because it boundaries are the human visible and invisible energy body.

How To Clear Chakra Energy

The essence of the energy within the chakra is based in your spirituality. You have created the situations that are currently present in your life giving you opportunities to learn lessons and repay karma.  Live, learn and become fully aware of who and what you are.

Tools:

There are tools – crystals, colors, etc.  These objects can help aid in your mission to learn or work through your karma, BUT they can’t take it away.

Daily Meditation:

Draw your attention consciously into each of your charkas, beginning with the first and working your way up.  As you focus your attention, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Are you losing energy?  If so, what fear is drawing power from this part of your body.  Deep breath, than consciously disconnect your energy from that fear.
  2. Ask for spiritual guidance for each chakra.
  3. And enter consciously into the energy of that chakra and sense the quality of energy activity increasing in tat part of your body.

“If prayer is talking to God, then meditation is listening to God. “
