June 1, 2009 at 4:59 am #123153JeannieParticipantthank you for your prayers, the family feels that they are helping. Cody is now off life support and alert and playing video games! He doesn’t remember the accident and hasn’t about his dad yet.
Tommy, is still on the vent & sedated but, his vital signs are now stable and the docs believe the bleeding in the brain has stopped. I thank you for your continued prayers. They are working:hearts::rosary::rosary::rosary:

:rosary::rosary::rosary::rosary::rosary:June 3, 2009 at 4:52 am #123165JeannieParticipantHere is the message I received today.
Cody continues to respond very well to his treatment and is playing video games, eating junk, and being as much of an 8 year old boy as he is able right now. For those of you wondering: he did get his Trix cereal. J He is completely unplugged, unhooked, unstuck from everything and has been taken around a little in a wheelchair. He still does not remember the accident, and for whatever reason, he has not asked about his daddy. He did tell Corrie, “Mommy, did you know I was almost not here?” Pretty incredible for a kid who had been unconscious since the accident. Anyway, he is doing very well. Keep those prayers coming!
Tommy, on the other hand, is not doing so well. There was a family conference with the doc this morning and Tommy’s brain is swelling all over the place. Apparently this type of injury peaks at 72 hours and then again at 7 days. We are at 7 days today. They cannot perform a craniectomy because the part of the brain that is furthest from the open area will push over to the open area – if that makes any sense. The doc said he has seen this type of brain injury before and there is a 10% chance of survival. Now, let me say this: Tommy is fighting so hard to come back. Yesterday, his heart rate was between 50 & 60 bpm and today it was up to 80-90 bpm. He is taking some breaths on his own. The vent is set for 14 (breaths per minute I think) and it is consistently going up to 17 and 20. They put a feeding tube in today, but they were not able to take him off the vent because at the time they tried his “numbers” were pretty high and they felt it would be too unsafe for him. They are going to try again tomorrow. They do not know how much brain damage he has at this point and there are no new bleeds. The doc said to think of this injury as a bruise – it takes a while for the swelling to go down and the body to absorb the fluid from the swelling.
Corrie is holding up very well. I don’t know how, but she’s a rock. Ian is scared to death. He does not want to see his daddy. He did see Cody when he was unconscious and hooked up to everything and he freaked out. He just can’t bear to see his daddy in that situation.
Please keep the prayers coming. They need them now more than ever.
June 3, 2009 at 1:16 pm #123166JudeParticipant(((((Tommy, Cody, Corrie & Ian))))) This is so hard on the whole family, all the ups and downs and uncertainties. Sending prayers, white light, and positive thoughts to all. You, too, ((((Jeannie))))

June 12, 2009 at 5:22 am #123175JeannieParticipantHere is the latest update:
Well, this has been a very exciting week!Tommy woke up a little on Monday!!!!!!!! Corrie said he had a glazed look and didn’t stay awake very long. He awoke again on Wednesday morning and was alert – but scared. He is responding somewhat – hand squeezing and facial expressions. He is still unable to speak because of the trach. As you can see from her message below, they are weaning him off the trach little by little, but he is coming along by leaps and bounds. On Monday, he was off the trach for about 3 minutes and as you can see he was off of it for quite some time last night!
We still don’t know the extent of his brain damage and how long he is going to need rehab. Please pray that Baylor Dallas accepts him. There are only a handful of TBI rehab facilities in Texas and the next closest one is Tyler . Please pray for Dallas so it won’t be so hard on Corrie to be able to see Tommy on a regular basis and vice versa.
Cody is doing very well, but will have to remain in the hospital for two more months. The rods will have to be removed from his legs at a later date. We’ll be sure and let you know how he’s doing.
Please make sure you read this e-mail all the way through to the end because a bank account has been set up and the information is in the last message. If any fundraisers are set up, I will be sure and let everyone know so you can help spread the word that this family needs help.
Please keep up the prayers!
Thank you for your prayers. :hearts:
