My daughter, Daughtie on here, Valerie to me, is getting a Reiki attunement tomorrow. This should change her energy around so she will be able to do Reiki healing on others. I don’t know if the following post is what will be done to her by the Reiki Master but it sounds interesting.
By David Herron
The Reiki attunement process is how one becomes a Reiki pracitioner. Being attuned to Reiki gives one the ability to easily access the Reiki (Universal Life Force) energy, for the purpose of healing a person or situation. Attunements can be given only by a Reiki master and can be given for either the purpose of training one in Reiki, or for simply giving someone a larger experience of Reiki than usually experienced in treatments.
The attunement procedure is a ceremony of spirit. In this ceremony the Reiki master uses the Reiki symbols and other gestures in a prescribed way. This ceremony creates an energy pattern around the recipient of the attunement which entrains (or attunes) their energy field to the energies represented by the symbols. The attunement is permanent, thus making the recipient a Reiki practitioner, only if the master uses the symbol for the “subconscious”. If this symbol is not used the entrainment is temporary only.
In this ceremony the master does the following:
Grounds and centers themselves. Instructs the recipient(s) in grounding and centering themselves. Remind the recipients this is their ceremony and be open to any and all experiences which happen. Perhaps puts on some mood setting music, lights incense, etc. The Master starts standing in front of the recipients and it is traditional for him/her to hold their hands up high at shoulder height with palms facing forward. The recipients should be seated in a row with room around them for the Master to walk around them easily.
Walk around the recipients one full circle and then behind the row again standing behind the first recipient.
There are two halves to the ceremony, one part done behind the recipient, the other part done in front.
Hold the left hand palm up next to the recipients head. The left hand generally receives energy while the right hand generally gives energy.
With the right hand draw the symbols over the crown of the recipients head.
When done with their backsides, walk around to the front.
At the front take the recipients hands between your own for a moment.
Draw the symbols over the hand. Drawing each symbol once, and as you draw silently chanting the name of the symbol three times.
Visualize the master symbol in violet and lightly blow, twice, from the base chakra to the crown chakra.
Lightly touch the forehead (third eye).
Draw the symbols over the forehead (third eye). Again drawing each symbol once, and chanting the name of the symbol three times.
Gently separate the hands.
Visualize the master symbol again and gently blow from base to crown.
Visualize the master symbol in the palm of your right hand and hold it over the recipients left hand. Lightly slap the palm of your right hand into the palm of their left hand.
Visualize the master symbol in the palm of your left hand and hold it over the recipients right hand. Again lightly slap your palm into theirs.
Visualize the master symbol and gently blow into the area between their hands while bringing their palms together again.
Give back their hands and gently touch them in the heart area, visualizing that you’ve given them back to themselves.
Step back and bow, honoring them for who they are.
Once all the recipients have been attuned make another circle around them, ending up in front again.April 14, 2004 at 8:48 pm #95257PBPanParticipant

I know someone who was a Reiki master, and began going to a Catholic healing services for her sick child in Massachusetts. She was told something about it being dangerous, and she should stop. I’m not sure whether the danger was regarding christianity or what, but she gave up her teaching of it, which was bringing in money that they needed. She then began to involve herself in the Charismatic movement, and speaks in tongues. I don’t understand any of that. Do any of you? Thanks for your input.April 15, 2004 at 8:17 am #95278juju4u0913Participant

The Reiki Master is doing small healings for a group once a month at my Catholic church. She is very devout and says the healing comes straight from God.
We know it all comes from the same place, no matter what anyone calls the place. There is a lot of Reiki information on the internet. We do have some Reiki students and Reiki Masters on this site.
I’ve had a Reiki massage, which is done with all your clothes on, except I took off my shoes and socks. The only places she physically massaged me were on my feet. I was curious and watched her. She prayed to God and to angels before starting, had beautiful meditation music playing, and fragrent candles burning. I climbed up on her regular massage table. It’s amazing that you feel your body get very warm and actually perspire where her hands are passing over, and her hands are at least 4 or 5 inches away. She would hesitate over areas where the energy told her there was a problem. They were all places I’ve had problems with and one I later had to be operated on.
She did tell me my “third eye” was not fully opened and I said to go ahead and open it as wide as she could. :)
She is a bonus Reiki Master because she is also a regular massage therapist and has some psychic and medium abilities. She says she can not do Reike and readings at the same time because they require different preparations. Still, some psychic things came through.
It was a fascinating experience.April 15, 2004 at 12:25 pm #95291ScubaCatParticipantjuju4u0913 wrote:Wow Gail, that sounds like something I would be interested in. If you are anywhere around Atlanta there are many Reiki opportunities. I’d be glad to give you some leads. I live about 40 miles away from Atlanta and was surprised to find several classes in my local area.April 22, 2004 at 7:54 pm #95485FairiedustParticipant
There’s a little bit more going on during an attunement. It isn’t stand in front, stand in back and snap your fingers type thing. It a can be very spiritual …… or not. I hope the teacher let Daughtie know there may be a 3-week cleansing time.
Never heard of a reiki massage, but what was described sounds a lot like a reiki practiitioner doing a body scan (hands off body) and reiki’ing points that are either high or low in energy. Pretty much standard reiki. Some practitioners prefer hands on and othrs hands off.
When the symbols are not used for a student attunement, it is called a healing attunement. It makes the reiki session a little stronger.
There are tradiitional attunements and contemperary western attunements, which may not resemble each other at all.
There are books and web sites that show you the symbols and may even tell you what they are for. But, usually you need to be attuned to them to make them useable to you. You may learn a symbol but it takes longer when you have to relearn the symbol that your teachers will be giving you.
I was very lucky and only had to relearn a few of the Japanese characters.
As far as the church, it probably hinges on who you talk to, but the Vatican does have nuns who practice reiki, so …….who can tell.
Giving an attunenent may sound easy, but try it without the paperwork. I had to stickpin my paper to Don’s shirt, front and back just to get through it. He is attuned to Level I Reiki though!
Some reach the Master/Teacher level but do not teach. Each take on their own journeys. I do enjoy doing reiki sessions. I haven’t had time to build up my confidence to start teaching, but I can do it. Don is my proof. But it would pretty funny if my stickpin tagged along to each class, doncha think?
Getting me interested in something is not very difficult. The hard part is the first step to explore that interest. It can sound so good, but then something else turns up that sounds good too. Making good on a desire and being commited to it to the end of the line. That’s hard!

As someone who has Reiki healing done to myself several times I can tell you that it is a healing treatment. No speaking in tongues but to me if she was speaking in tongues that suggest possession. I cannot say but when performing any kind of healing one should always ask for the white light of Christ to be placed around them. My Reiki practioner always placed protection around her and me. Otherwise I would not have gone through with it.
