Thought I’d post this song. It’s beautiful.

    “Lay down
    Your sweet and weary head.
    Night is falling
You have come to journey’s end.

    Sleep now
Dream–of the ones who came before.
    They are calling
    From across the distant shore.

    Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
    Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away.

    Safe in my arms
    You’re only sleeping.

    What can you see
    On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?

    Across the sea
    A pale moon rises.
    The ships have come
    to carry you home.

And all will turn to silver glass.
    A light on the water
    All souls pass.

    Hope fades
    Into the world of night.
    Through shadows falling
    Out of memory and time.

    Don’t say
We have come now to the end.
    White shores are calling
You and I will meet again.

And you’ll be here in my arms
    Just sleeping.

    What can you see?
    On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?

    Across the sea
    A pale moon rises.
    The ships have come
    To carry you home.

And all will turn to silver glass.
    A light on the water
    Grey ships pass
    Into the West.”

The music with this song is beautiful!:musicnote :musicnote

Not sure if anyone has heard of this group, but they are called Blackmore’s Night. They have a couple of ADC and LAD songs. These two are off their new album, and they remind me so much of what the bigger message is.

    Dandelion Wine

    Where has the time gone
It seems to fly so fast
    One moment your having fun
The next it’s come to pass
    Days turning to yesteryear
Old friends find their own way
    Intil the moment you leave
I wish ythat you would stay

    So here’s to you
    All our friends
    Surely we will meet again
Don’t stay away too long this time
We’ll raise a glass, maybe two
And we’ll be thinking of you
Util our paths cross again maybe next time…

    Let’s laugh at the memories
    And talk all afternoon
    Let’s remember the moments
That leave us all too soon
    We’ll smile at the pictures
    Still lingering in our minds
    When you’re reminiscing
Then all you need is time

    Tracing faded photographs
    A scrapbook lonely charm
Pressed flowers and dreams we had
    Our fingerpring on time
The first moment we ever met
    When you eyes met mine
    I remember the summers
    of Dandelion Wine

    Ghost of a Rose

The valley green was so serene
In the middle ran a stream so blue
    A maiden fair
    In despair
Once had met her true love there
and she told him: She would say…

    “Promise me
    When you see
A white rose you’ll think of me
I love you so, never let go
    I will be-your ghost of a rose…”

    Her eyes believed
    In mysteries
She would lay amongst the leaves of amber
Her spirit wild Heart of a child
Yet gentle still, quiet and mild and he loved her
    When she would say…

    When all was done
    She turned to run
And danced into the setting sun as he watched her
    And ever more
    He thought he saw
A slimpse of her upon the moors forever-he’d hear her say…

I’ve been doing a lot of traveling lately (which explains my recent absence from the board) and in NYC a few days ago, I got the chance to see Phantom of the Opera on Broadway again. There is a song sung by the lead female, Christine, as she stands near her father’s grave. I thought it was beautiful enough to post here. It’s called, “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again”

    You were once
    my one companion . . .
    you were all
    that mattered . . .
    You were once
    a friend and father –
    then my world
    was shattered . . .

    Wishing you were
    somehow here again . . .
    wishing you were
    somehow near . . .
    Sometimes it seemed
    if I just dreamed,
    somehow you would
    be here . . .

    Wishing I could
    hear your voice again . . .
    knowing that I
    never would . . .
    Dreaming of you
    won’t help me to do
    all that you dreamed
    I could . . .

    Passing bells
    and sculpted angels,
    cold and monumental,
    seem, for you,
    the wrong companions –
you were warm and gentle . . .

    Too many years
    fighting back tears . . .
    Why can’t the past
    just die . . .?

    Wishing you were
    somehow here again . . .
    knowing we must
    say goodbye . . .
    Try to forgive . . .
    teach me to live . . .
    give me the strength
    to try . . .

    No more memories,
    no more silent tears . . .
    No more gazing across
    the wasted years . . .
    Help me say
    goodbye.

It’s really a beautiful and powerful song to hear in person. :)

I did a very quick scan of this thread and assuming I didn’t overlook it, I’m surprised no one has mentioned “Unchained Melody” from the film, GHOST starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg (Oscar-winning performance). Oddly enough, “Unchained Melody” was originally written for a 1955 prison film, UNCHAINED, which didn’t make a blip on the box office radar screen. Despite this, the song and its prison lyrics still fit GHOST and its LAD/ADC plot very well, which was the intent of its producers.

    Dragon,

You’re right. “Unchained Melody” is a good one. I love the movie Ghost.

Here’s another one: I haven’t posted it before, because the writers, Emily Saliers and Amy Ray, wrote it about unrequited love. But at the time it was released, I had just lost a dear friend, and the words were so fitting. The anniversary of his death is coming up, and I’ve been thinking about him.

    Ghost
    by Indigo Girls

There’s a letter on the desktop that I dug out of a drawer
The last truce we ever came to in our adolescent war.
And I start to feel the fever from the warm air through the screen
Come regular like seasons, shadowing my dreams.

Oh the Mississippi’s mighty, it starts in Minnesota
At a place that you could walk across with five steps down.
And I guess that’s how you started, like a pin prick to my heart.
But at this point you rush right through me and I start to drown.

And there’s not enough room in this world for my pain.
Signals cross, and love gets lost, and time passed makes it plain.
Of all my demon spirits I need you the most.
I’m in love with your ghost. I’m in love with your ghost.

Dark and dangerous like a secret that’s whispered in a hush,
When I wake the things I dreamt about you last night make me blush.
When you kiss me like a lover, then you sting me like a viper.
I go follow to the river, play your memory like the piper.
And I feel it like a sickness, how this love is killing me.
But I’d walk into the fingers of your fire willingly.
And dance the edge of sanity , I’ve never been this close.
In love with your ghost, in love with your ghost.

Unknowing captor, you’ll never know how much you
Pierce my spirit, but I can’t touch you.
Can you hear it, a cry to be free?
But I’m forever under lock and key
    As you pass through me.

Now I see your face before me.
I would launch a thousand ships
To bring your heart back to my island
As the sand beneath me slips.
As I burn up in your presence
And I know now how it feels
    To be weakend like Achilles
With you always at my heels.

And my bitter pill to swallow is the silence that I keep.
It poisons me, I can’t swim free
    The river is too deep.

Though I’m baptized by your touch
I am no worse at most
In love with your ghost. In love with your ghost.

SKYMTGRL: I might add that among the more popular, recent LAD movies such as HEAVEN CAN WAIT (the remake by Warren Beatty), THE SIXTH SENSE and GHOST; I consider GHOST to be the most enjoyable. Again, considering it was the top hit of 1990, I’m surprised no one has mentioned the film or the music on this thread.

I haven’t seen “Heaven Can Wait”. I’ll have to check it out.
“Ghost” is definitely one of my favorites, though. I believe I recall JE saying that is one of his favorite movies as well :) .

I can’t believe that I went through all the pages to see if the following song had been posted, and to my surprise, it wasn’t.
I don’t know who wrote the song, only the person who performed it, so she is who I will give the credit to. As far as I am concerned, she sang it beautifully, and without her voice I don’t think that it would have done so well.

    Once In A Blue Moon
    Performed by: Sydney Forest.

    The room is empty
    the lights are dim
    and my heart wonders
if I’ll ever see you again

    My tears are hungry
    for an open door
    and your arms held me
I’ve never felt that way before

    CHORUS:

    And I’ll be waiting
    and I’ll be watching
    under a blue moon

    Taste of heaven
    only happens
    once in a blue moon.

    Do you remember
    when the wind blew free?
    We fit together
    so naturally.

    CHORUS

If the wind closes a door
    it will open another

    CHORUS

    Once in a blue moon

I really do love this thread, and I am so glad that it is still active.

    Hi Guys,
I searched the entire post and was surprised that no one had posted this song. It is called “I’ll be seeing you”. I go to my mum’s place of rest and sing it to her all the time. I sing it to her whenever I’m alone and missing her so incredibly bad. It brings back all those wonderful memories I have of her and all the places we went together. She was my best friend and we went so many places together. Sometimes it’s hard to even go by those places we went to because I still look for her, in her little blue jacket, with her hair piled statuesquely on her head.

    I’ll Be Seeing You

Track Title: I’ll Be Seeing You
    Album Title: Perfectly Frank

    Prime Artist: Tony Bennett
    Producer: Andre Fischer
    Written by: Irving Kahal
    Written by: Sammy Fain

From the Show: Right This Way 1938 (S)

    I’ll be seeing you;
    In all the old, familiar places;
    That this heart of mine embraces;
    All day through.

    In that small cafe;
    The park across the way;
    The children’s carousel;
    The chestnut tree;
    The wishing well.

    I’ll be seeing you;
    In every lovely, summer’s day;
    And everything that’s bright and gay;
    I’ll always think of you that way;
    I’ll find you in the morning sun;
    And when the night is new;
    I’ll be looking at the moon;
    But I’ll be seeing you.

    Linda Eder: “Even Now”

Even now…I remember all the empty spaces
    You filled with love
Even now…Every corner of the world we shared
    Is still filled with love
Even now…not a day goes by
When I don’t ache for you
Through my tears I still hear your laughter even now

Stars still shine when they’re gone
Hearts that break will still beat on
Letting go’s the hardest thing to do
    ‘Cause all those feelings start
And time can’t change my heart
It all leads back to you
Even now…you are in my dreams and in my dreams
    You always will be
Even now…You’re the one true thing that brings my heart
    Back home here to me
When I’m scared…I can close my eyes
    You are there…Ever young
And somehow, I can always find you even now

From all the memories kept inside
To all the dreams we knew, the rush of you
Will always be a part of me

Even now…you are in my dreams and in my dreams
    You always will be
Even now…You’re the one true thing that brings my heart
    Back home here to me
    Even now…In my darkest night
    Still you shine silver light
So I fall through forever with you even now

I have so fallen in love with her music…my kids even ask me to play her CD in the car

Another beautiful ADC song is Silent Lucidity by Queensryche. My cousin’s wife had a sister who had kind of fallen off the path and had gotten into some bad stuff. She walked into her apartment one night and one of her psycho neighbors had broken in to her apartment to rob it. She caught him and he stabbed her multiple times. She had called her girlfriend when she got home saying that she had this bad feeling that someone was in her apartment and so her girlfriend had called the police and they are the ones that found her. At her funeral, my cousin sang this beautiful song. My cousin’s wife’s sister was a beautiful, sweet person who just got lead down the wrong path. This song reminds her family that she is still there, watching over them and that if they break down the walls inside their minds and open them up to their dreams, she will be able to see them in her dreams (at least that was my interpretation on the song). Anyway, if you ever get a chance listen to the music part of it. It makes the lyrics that much more beautiful!

    Silent Lucidity by Queensryche

    Hush now don’t you cry
Wipe away the tear drops from your eye
    You’re lying safe in bed
It was all a bad dream
    Spinning thru your head
Your mind tricked you to feel the pain
Of someone close to you leaving the game
    Of life

So here it is, another chance
Wide awake, you face the day
    Your dream is over…
    Or has it just begun?

    There’s a place I like to hide
A door way that I run thru in the night
    Relax child, you were there
But only didn’t realize, and you were scared
It’s a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind
    Commanding in another world
    Suddenly, you hear and see
    This magic new dimension

I — will be watching over you
I — am gonna help you see it through
I — will protect you in the night
I — am smiling next to you .. in Silent Lucidity

    [Visualize your dreams
    write them into permanent form
if you persist in your efforts
    you will achieve
    dream control

    control

    how is that, better?

    dream control
    dream control
    help me]

If you open your mind for me
You won’t rely on open eyes to see
    The walls you built within
Come tumbling down, and a new world will begin
Living twice at once you learn
You’re safe from pain in the dream domain
A soul set free to fly
A round trip journey in your head
Master of illusion, can you realize
Your dream’s alive, you can be the guide but…

I — will be watching over you
I — am gonna help you see it through
I — will protect you in the night
I — am smiling next to you ..

This a new song coming out on the Country charts. I have always believen this……

    God Only Cries
    Tim Johnson
    Sung by: Diamond Rio

On an icy road one night
A young man loses his life
They marked the shoulder with a cross
    An’ his family gathers round
On a piece of Hallowed ground
Their hearts are heavy with their loss
As the tears fall from their eyes
    There’s one who’ll always sympathise.

God only cries for the living
‘Cause it’s the living that are left to carry on
An’ all the angels up in Heaven
They’re not grieving because they’re gone
There’s a smile on their faces
‘Cause they’re in a better place than, mmm, baby, than, oh
God only cries for the living
‘Cause it’s the living that are so far from home.

    It still makes me sad
When I think of my Grand-dad
I miss him each and every day
But I know the time will come
    When my own gradnson
    Wonders why I went away
Maybe we’re not meant to understand
Till we meet up in the Promised Land.

God only cries for the living
‘Cause it’s the living that are left to carry on
And all the angels up in Heaven
They’re not grieving because they’re gone
There’s a smile on their faces
‘Cause they’re in a better place than, oh, baby, than oh
God only cries for the living
‘Cause it’s the living that are so far from home
Yeah, we’re so far from home, Mmmm, Mmmm

Ok, first I want to ask, is there anybody making a list of these songs? I found one in the middle somewhere…did it ever make it to the JE newsletter?

It is just cumbersome to look at all 219 threads to check for duplicates. But I did!! Because you all had some really AWESOME songs. :tissue:

I picked this song because it is a more upbeat, lifting song but conveys so much with the life lessons(“I don’t know what you needed to know”), the butterfly imagery, remembering without getting lost in grief, the water reference and light reference (“Let it rain. Let it shine.”), evolvement (“everything has gotta change”) and CAV (“I’m gonna celebrate Love, open my heart”). WOW, what more could you ask for in a song!! I cried and smiled when I heard this song the one and only time I ever heard it played on radio or anywhere. A special soul “sent” it to me when I needed it. I wrote it down and bought it!!

Ok, so here’s THE song :
someone has it posted at: http://www.myspace.com/chrispierce then click on the song. It is in memory of his father written immediately after he passed. I had to “transcribe” so hopefully it’s all correct!! He isn’t well known except for the song “Are You Beautiful” in the movie Crash.

Bye Bye Butterfly (better if you listen to it at link above!)
    artist: Chris Pierce
    album:Static Trampoline

Life goes by in the blink of an eye
tears won’t bring you back tonight.
I’m gonna celebrate love, open my heart
I don’t wanna fall through the hole in the dark

I can’t go where you had to go
I don’t know what you needed to know
all I can do now is let you go
    Bye Bye Butterfly,
    alright.

    Painted horses, red and brown
round and round, and up and down
    where childhood memories are found
    Bye Bye Butterfly

I can’t go where you had to go
I don’t know what you needed to know
all I can do now is let you go
    Bye Bye Butterfly

    Let it rain
    Let is shine
    Everything has got to change
    Bye Bye Butterfly

    Let it rain
    Let is shine
    Everything has got to change
    Bye Bye Butterfly
    Bye Bye

You’ve got to be strong and hold your head held high,
don’t let the devil shake your hand too tight
and take your power away from you
and leave you empty like a blown out fuse!

    Let it rain
    Let it shine
    Everything has got to change
    Bye Bye Butterfly
    Bye Bye

    Bye Bye Butterfly

    Bye Bye Butterfly

Let the angels fly with you, tonight

    Bye Bye Butterfly

Let the angels fly with you, tonight

    Bye Bye Butterfly

All I can do now is let you go.

Another song from Chris Pierce, but not as upbeat is about letting go.

The first line when I heard it made me think of JE’s “idiot zone”! Then the whole song I feel is about letting go of the grief and accepting the love and ability to communicate the love.(“who’s gonna ever listen to your voice when the tears are falling slow?”). But you interpret it for yourself!

Again, better if you hear the song because the lyrics will seem redundant here. (wonder if that’s why they aren’t with the CD or posted anywhere?)
This is my “transcription” of them.
And it is just an emotional voice with acoustic guitar. I could only find a 45second sample at : http://www.chrispierce.com/musicstreams/musicplayerpop.html

Love is within reach (better if listen to sample first!)
    artist Chris Pierce
    Album:Static Trampoline

Who’s gonna put a band-aid on your mouth
when you’re at a loss for words.
When you’re at a loss for words.
    oh no.

    Love, love is within reach
    the moment.. the moment
    you let go
    Love is within reach
    the moment.. the moment
    you let go.

Who’s gonna ever come up with a cure
    when your heart hurts?
    When your heart hurts?
    Oh no.

    Love, love is within reach
    the moment.. the moment
    you let go
    Love is within reach
    the moment.. the moment
    you let go.

    You let go.

Who’s gonna ever listen to your voice
when your tears are falling slow
When your tears are falling slow
    oh no.

    Love, love is within reach.
    Love, love is within reach.
    ummmmm
    Love, Love is within reach

    Love, Love is within reach
    oh Love,
    love,love,love,love,love,love,
    love,love

    Love is within reach.
