The Programming Insider: Wednesday 1/07/04
by Marc Berman
-John Edward in Primetime:
Psychic John Edward, whose syndicated talk show Crossing Over has been canceled by Universal Television, will appear as himself on an episode of NBC’s Will & Grace later this season. Since he is not returning to daytime, here’s an idea. Why doesn’t one of the networks give him an hour in primetime? With the summer on the horizon, and the network schedules an expected array of repeats, wouldn’t an hour featuring the beyond be a welcome alternative?January 7, 2004 at 11:03 pm #81084

Good on ya John!!!!
We get Will and Grace over here – again on Living TV. I’ll have to make sure I add that to the SKY plus planner now!! Not sure how far behind we are from you guys……..

I like the way this guy thinks. Someone should move him from “Programming Insider” to “Programming Director.” Maybe televising an entire 2.5 hour seminar on a Friday or Saturday night??? Sounds like must see TV to me.January 8, 2004 at 1:39 pm #92351BelieverParticipant
Marc Berman is a genius!January 8, 2004 at 1:49 pm #92352
I think we all agree that Mr. Berman is a man of superior intellect, obviously! John has deserved that opportunity for so long, maybe this is what it is going to take to get him on primetime! I am waiting with baited breath to find out what happens next! Anyone from ABC, CBS or NBC out there reading this? Hello? Do you have any idea the extent of John’s network of loyal fans? ;)January 8, 2004 at 1:59 pm #92353
I don’t get to (or want to actually) watch much TV, but I always try to catch this show. It has to be my most favorite sitcom, out of all the comedies that are airing now.
I absolutly love Debra Messing, probably because she reminds me so much of the great Lucille Ball, whom I just love to watch, over and over. I also love the other characters on the show. I never fail to double over with Karen/Jack or Karen/Rosario scenes.
I can’t wait to find out how John will fit into, and interact with all the characters. I hope it’s not a “small” part :)January 8, 2004 at 2:48 pm #92355sauropod2003Participant

My guess is that the Grace character will be the one who wants to meet him. In an earlier episode, the show established that Grace believes in psychic phenomena. She was trying to make conversation with her fiance’s stuffy parents when the subject came up. The dialogue went something like this:
(The parents discuss an opera or ballet they saw on TV)
GRACE: Well, it sounds good, but it’s not THE PET PSYCHIC.
STUFFY PARENTS: What is THE PET PSYCHIC?
GRACE (horrified): You’ve never seen it?!! (gets very excited) Okay, I don’t want to oversell it. It’s just THE GREATEST SHOW that’s ever been on TV – EVER!!!
The alternative is that Karen will try to contact her dead husband. That would make for a pretty “heavy” reading.

That would be a great idea! For Karen to get tickets to Crossing Over and have the cast there as guests. You could be writing for NBC.

I’m definitely going to be tuning in! I absolutely love Will & Grace – especially Jack, and Rosario. The two of them have such witty and hilarious responses to everything! :lwink: Not to mention the reading that John did on C.O. with Shelley Morrisson (that is her name, right?) a few months ago made me have even more respect for her as a person, and as an actress.
And I think the idea of a Primetime show for John would be fantastic! The way I see it is, at night it would be accessible to more people – some who might not even have known or heard about C.O., and others who were just at work, school, out, etc. when C.O. was on during the day and had to miss it. The only problem would be getting a station to sponsor it, and companies that would buy commercial airtime during it (my dad works in that field, so I’m always thinking about the commpercial aspect….;)) I would be interesting though, to hear what John thinks about that idea….I guess we’ll see!

I have to get out the books, but I’m pretty sure that it was in “Afterlife” that John mentioned that he was at an awards show with Sandra (the night that she fell ill as a result of being pregnant with Justin) and was able to meet Will and Grace and that it was really great to meet them because he was a fan of theirs. How cool for him to be able to be on the show now! I hope he has a great time doing this.January 8, 2004 at 4:29 pm #92366forgivenessParticipant
Im in shock! But in a nice way.
It is so kewl that PRIMETIME will get to see John as himself….
I wish him the best and hope he gets an oppotunity to share his work thru this show….
Instead of “JUST JACK” maybe there can be a PRIMTIME show with JUST JOHN????January 8, 2004 at 5:40 pm #92367
 Angelina! What a thought! Love the idea :D
I have been a longtime supporter of the idea that CO should have been in a primetime slot to begin with. Maybe it’s a selfish want, though, because then John would have to spend even MORE time working. On the other hand, he’d have a bigger spotlight, which would mean a bigger following and so many more people being reached and lives being touched by his gifts. Hmmmm…. Darned if you do, darned if ya don’t.
